Logistics Manager in Birmingham, West Midlands, United Kingdom

Our client, a renowned global engineering contracting group, is currently looking for an experienced and ambitious Logistics Manager to join there team of permanent staff working on a large scale joint venture rail project based in their regional office in Birmingham.

Working for the Head of Construction, the Logistics Manager will be involved in developing the Logistics Strategy for the Project from GRIP 4 (Single Option Development - current stage) through GRIP 5 (Detailed Design) and throughout its implementation during GRIP 6 (Construction, Test & Commission - commencing mid 2018).

The Logistics Manager will be required to work across the Environment & Sustainability, Engineering, Engineering Assurance, Consents, Health & Safety, Innovation, Commercial and Construction teams to develop, implement and lead a rounded logistics plan that facilitates efficient delivery of the works. This Project Management role will require you to manage the Logistics team, budget and delivery programme along with all the Health & Safety elements associated with the Project Logistics.


Candidates will perform the following tasks and duties;

Production, review and regular updates to the Project Logistics Strategy.
Involved in the development, review and implementation of the Construction Strategy, Methodology and Programme
Involved in the development of the Target Cost for the works with specific focus on the Project Logistics
Involved in the Environmental Impact Assessment (EIA) / Transport & Works Act Order (TWAO) process to inform the traffic assessment work required to facilitate the works.
Collation of key materials quantities and strategic procurement of these materials in a timely manner to support the Construction Programme
Develops the overall Compound Strategy for the Project (Number, Location, Layout, Procurement, Security Arrangements etc)
Owns and develops the 'Critical Resources' schedule for the Project
Develops the Traffic Management Plan for the project
Identifies and sets logistics KPI's
Considers the use of rail and road logistics to achieve an optimised solution
Identifies and collaborates with key suppliers/stakeholders to ensure a transparent and integrated way of working
Liaise with Utilities Manager to ensure service provision to Compounds is clearly defined and sourced
Ensuring the Project adheres to any Logistics oriented consenting conditions imposed upon the project
Manages the material requirements for the overall Project balancing individual Section against overall Project priority and criticality
Manages the Logistics team budget / resource and ensure 'Critical resource' are available for Project delivery
Leads, directs and coordinates logistics activities to ensure that facilities and services provided for the construction programme meet legislative and other requirements
Is responsible for the quality and health, safety and environmental performance of the Logistics Team
Manages scheduling of daily deliveries to support the construction needs of the site teams
