Business Developer - Rail Maintenance
Location: Home Based with travel nationwide to client offices. Regular travel also required to Fugro UK office in Wallingford, Oxfordshire.
The role
Fugro currently has an opportunity for a Business Development professional to work in our rail division. The purpose of this role is to drive business development and sales of Fugro’s new maintenance-based solutions to support tamping operations within the U.K. The role will focus principally on direct sales to Network Rail.
Whilst this role will be principally office/home based, a proportion of your time will be spent visiting clients and undertaking site visits.

Who you’ll be working with:
As a business developer, it is expected that the majority of your time will be spent looking externally from Fugro and working with the client to develop sales propositions which offer them the best possible value. Internally you will need to liaise with management colleagues to discuss the timing of incoming sales, the product development team to provide client feedback on solution enhancements, and other members of the sales and marketing team to capture intel around market treads and new opportunities.
Here’s what a typical day would be like:
You are unlikely to have many typical days. However, activities core to this role will include:
• Prospecting with contacts in the target rail maintainer account
• Developing sales propositions which meet the needs of the account
• Recording interactions with contacts and progress on sales into Fugro’s Avalon CRM
• Leading and contributing to tenders/proposals within your area (including developing project risk logs, pricing and following the internal governance procedure)
• Providing client-based feedback to the solution development teamContributing to internal planning, budgeting and market insight documents
• Assisting the operations team to prepare logistical plans taking any U.K. specific and/or contractual obligations into account
• Working closely with the project management team to ensure sales are handed over effectively
Who we’re looking for:
Essential
• A Science, Engineering or Management based degree or equivalent qualification
• Demonstratable record of selling a service-based offering to railway maintainers
• Technical understanding of Tamping and track geometry
• Full UK driving licence
• IT literate
• A client centric approach
• Ability to travel to client and/or project sites (possibly at night
• Desirable
• Experience of NEC3/NEC4 and/or NR3/NR4 contracting
• Technical experience of land/geodetic surveying
• CSCS and PTS
