Samuel Knight International are working with a global Rail Freight Operator who are looking to add an experienced National Maintenance Manager to their industry leading operation across the UK.

The purpose of this business critical position is to manage the provision of safe and reliable locomotives and wagons, delivering successful contractual obligations to meet customer demands and support strategic development.

Key elements of the role include:

• Responsible for the provision of all UK locomotive and wagon fleet requirements
• Provide a cost effective in field maintenance service to both the client & 3rd party customers
• Provide all Health and Safety requirements for members of staff ensuring compliance with Health, Safety and Welfare at their places of work.
• Ensuring all locations are fit for purpose secure and comply with environmental legislation
• Formulate & control locomotive and wagon maintenance budget.
• Provide the resources to deliver revenue for 3rd party activity depots & outstations.
• Assist commercial negotiations with other rail operators in relation to locomotive assets.

Successful candidates will possess the following experience:

• At least 10 years’ experience within a maintenance engineering position

• Holistic & varied engineering experience including locomotive and wagon maintenance, breakdown and recovery. (Rail, Logistics, Aerospace, Military)
• Management experience of major maintenance facilities
• Accomplished in leading teams encompassing Production Managers and frontline maintenance staff
• Background in reliability improvements
• Commercially astute and experienced in compiling and delivering contract tenders
• Degree qualified or working towards graduation
• Institute of Leadership & Management level 5 or equivalent
• Business Improvement qualifications
• Engineering qualifications or time served apprenticeship
