Pullman Rail was established just over 20 years ago. It is a Cardiff based engineering business and is part of the Colas Rail group of companies which in turn is part of the Bouygues group. Our Leckwith based depot, located close to Cardiff Central station, is a prime asset serving the entire UK rail network. Our technical expertise in safety and project management means we can deliver refined engineering and productions solutions to meet specific customer requirements. We are constantly developing our systems and techniques to reduce waste, cut down on lead and cycle times and improve efficiency in order to get vehicles back into revenue earning service as quickly as possible.
The Company is a key employer in South Wales with a national reach and there are plans to grow the Pullman Rail business, building on the many well-established customer relationships as well as developing new ones. The business itself will also carry on completing current and planned improvements to its facilities. This will enable further development in the scope of services for passenger, freight and plant rolling stock. These developments will increase the capacity and reduce throughput time for bogie, wheel set, rail vehicle overhaul, refurbishments and upgrades.
Purpose of the role
Out in all weathers, you'll play a highly practical role in maintaining the site with typical duties ranging from overhauling and repairing machines and equipment on site to ensure that they are safe, working efficiently and fit for purpose to preventative maintenance on machines and equipment, as well as responding to emergency machine break downs.
Key responsibilities
- Promote and carry out preventative maintenance across the site.
- Ensure all machines are safe and fit for purpose.
- Perform planned and routine maintenance assessments
- Overhaul, upkeep and repair of all plant machines to encompass mechanical, electrical and pneumatics activities.
- Actively promote safe working practices.
- Work with Contractors where applicable.
- Undertake repairs and servicing to the highest standard in accordance with work requests and predetermined specifications.
- Fault finding, testing and the removal or adjustment of existing fittings, fixtures and parts
- Effectively communicate. Keep management and relevant parties' aware, seeking advice and assistance when required.
- Ensure maintenance records are kept up to date.
- Continuously look for improvements to the service and for effective good practice within the role.
- Participate in team and one-to-one meetings, and undertake, as appropriate, courses, training or other developmental activities, relevant to the role.
- Keep up to date with developments within the Company and other sector-wide practices, that0influence the day-to-day activities within the role, ensuring compliance with relevant legislation and any other relevant internal & external factors e.g. Company policies and procedures, quality management standards, Health & Safety.
- Promote the organisation by whatever means are appropriate and available so as to ensure a positive image to customers & clients.

Person Specification
- Relevant Trade Qualification
- Completed apprenticeship or NVQ L3 in a relevant discipline.
- Working knowledge of: pneumatics, electronics, hydraulics and mechanical design.
- Experience of maintaining cranes and lifting equipment, compressors and air systems, gas, electrical and machine tools.
- Able to identify reasons for mechanical / electrical failure - fault analysis to rectify problems.
- A genuine commitment to achieving high standards and an eye for detail to ensure the quality of work done.
- Experience of prioritising work and optimising and improving use of resources including teams, tools and equipment.
- Knowledge and experience of following safe working practices in a safety critical workplace.
- Excellent inter-personal and communication skills.
- Good problem-solving skills.
- Able to work flexibly and work across a broad range of activities as the role evolves.
