Job Overview
The purpose of the role is to work on all aspects of business development within the fields of research for Very Light Rail and last mile mobility.
The Company
Located in Dudley in the West Midlands, a new purpose-built Innovation Centre for rail and last mile passenger transport, is planned to open for business in the summer of 2021. The facility will include an engineering hall, laboratories and outdoor test tracks for rail and light rail vehicles. The Centre will operate via a Hub and Spoke model with University partners.
Main Responsibilities and Duties
• Proactively generate external funding for new projects, research, education, continuous professional development, knowledge transfer and consultancy activities.
• Promote Innovation Centre services to target customers, from SMEs through to larger industry players, to achieve effective engagement with the Centre and its partners
• Maintain awareness of industry and market developments through development of relationships and networks.
• Manage key relationships and communications with current and potential clients and partners, from proposal development and onboarding of projects, tracking of progress with the Centre’s delivery team, through to disseminating outputs and project completion.
• Work with the marketing team to identify and support marketing and promotional activities, thereby increasing interaction and engagement between BCIMO and industry.
• Design and implement project monitoring and evaluation tools and processes.
• Disseminate relevant information with internal and external customers and bodies.
Preferred Background, Experience & Qualifications
• Degree level education, with post graduate qualification being desirable.
• Excellent track record in strategic planning and income/new business generation to achieve challenging revenue budgets.
• Demonstrable experience of successful commercial management at senior level and organisational change.
• High level interpersonal skills to establish credibility with management practitioners, budget holders and programme participants within major corporate organisations to promote the VLRNIC overall portfolio.
• The ability to work flexibly, with some travel and evening/weekend work.
• Exceptional written, oral and presentation skills, including report construction.
• Ability to organise and direct resources to pursue new bids or opportunities.
• Ability to work under pressure to tight deadlines
