We have a new 12 month minimum contract for Generalist Engineer with experience in Asset Management, Project Development, System Engineering, Cost Modelling (Understanding)Transport Background
Purpose:
Business Engineering (BE) within TfL leads and delivers multidisciplinary professional engineering in projects, typically at the early parts of the lifecycle. This includes understanding stakeholder needs, the business case, mitigating risks, establishing feasibility, developing prototype solutions and setting technical requirements for delivering well defined business outcomes. Business Engineering provides: Facilitation, description and co-ordination of the Technical Strategy for TfL Engineering and route maps to deliver TfL's corporate strategy, vision and goals. Engineering problem solving for clients in Strategy, Operations and Maintenance. The environment, governance and integration for delivering innovation and technical research and development projects. This includes developing policy with stakeholders and sourcing and co-ordinating internal and external funding. The team has a range of specialist expertise including delivering projects at the early stages of Technology Readiness and working with a wide range of external delivery partners in Industry, SMEs and academia. Professional engineering and business leadership for managing obsolescence to identify risks and provide cost-efficient avoidance, resolution or mitigations. Business Engineering works across the whole TfL enterprise and also to clients outside the organisation. Engineer (Band 3) Knowledge: Awareness of the strategic needs of TfL, its context and the priorities and ambition of its leaders. Awareness of London's UK, European and international transport industries, best practice, benchmarking and horizon scanning. Commercial and business awareness. Understands the principles of asset management. Strong understanding of the body of knowledge of a particular engineering discipline deployed in transport and awareness of the role of other specialists. Skills: Good presentation skills including oral, written and the use of visualisation. Ability to translate customer needs into a thought-through and well-reasoned deliverable, prepared to an agreed time and quality level. Ability to connect ideas and challenges in different areas of TfL and find new ways to apply technology to meet strategic business needs. Good analytical skills including a high level of numeracy and/or strong ability in hardware or software design. Ability to work as part of a team, happy to adapt to a changing delivery environment. Ability to identify needs at different Technology Readiness stages. Experience: Experience of delivery in transport in a project, maintenance or operational role with professional engineering content. Experience of undertaking a research project in a numerate subject area. Demonstrates curiosity, self starting and resilience in adversity.Similar Job Searches
