Samuel Knight International are working with a leading rolling stock specialist who are looking to add an enthusiastic Facilities and Waste Management Officer to their expanding operation based in Milton Keynes

As part of this important role you will be responsible for overseeing and coordinating waste disposal, and recycling activities in an efficient and environmentally-friendly manner across a 40 acre site. You will also be responsible for waste treatment including preparing, planning and implementing safe waste disposal strategies, to ensure all waste disposal activities within the site comply with environmental laws and regulations.

Key elements of the role include:

• Assist with the development, planning, promotion and implementation of new waste disposal schemes
• Monitor the quality and performance of waste services, including contract management of external providers
• Assist with the development of information and promotional materials
• Aim to meet waste reduction and recycling targets
• Identify and target problems areas, working to find solutions to eliminate these
• Supervise the transportation of waste to ensure that it takes place efficiently without contamination of environment
• Ensure compliance with current legislation in the transportation, handling and disposal of waste
• Report breaches of cross-contaminated waste streams
• Ensure spill kits/stations are fully equipped
• Ensure site is kept clean and safe and skips are emptied in good time
• Report any environmental incidents to line manager

Successful candidates will possess the following experience:

• A successful background in waste management
• Working knowledge of COSHH
• Accomplished people management and organisational skills
• Excellent communication skills
• Previous Rolling Stock experience would be a bonus

• Ability to grasp complex and dynamic legislation
• Capacity to explain, apply and monitor such legislation
• Analytical, problem-solving and decision-making skills
• An interest in, and understanding of, environment and sustainability issues
• Fork truck and IPAF license desirable but not essential
• Driving Licence
