We have an exciting opportunity for a HSQE Advisor to join our Story Scotland team, based from our Blantyre office - and there has never been a better time to join!
The Role
As a HSQE Advisor at Story Scotland, you will provide assurance, guidance and support ensuring the safe operation of sites, in order to comply with all Health and Safety regulatory and legislative requirements.
1. Create a culture that promotes Health, Safety, Quality and Environmental Safety in the workplace:
- Work with the HSQE Team in providing a constant focus on improving HSQE standards across the business and set out what good looks like
- Provide proactive support and guidance to Site Teams to achieve sustainable HSQE practices that exceed Client expectations
- Assist Site Teams with the provision of “tool box talks,” inductions, safety briefings, and other communications as appropriate to ensuring consistent and effective delivery of the HSQE message.
- Provide HSQE Training where appropriate including development of safety step up / safety action group presentations
- Support site teams at all levels to generate and implement HSQE action plans
- Maintain close and effective relationships with Site Teams
- Liaise and meet with client to conduct joint site visits and promote strong client relations as required
- Proactively promote the use a Hazard/Improvement spotters to raise the number and quality submitted.
2. Monitor and accurately report on HSQE compliance:
- Supporting site teams, carry out regular site inspections, safe system of work checks, risk assessments and audits to ensure that all activities meet legislative, client and business standards.
- Report findings from site visits promptly and work with site teams to close out any actions
- Audit site HSQE files to a consistently high standard and sign off as fit for purpose
- Review and report on HSQE compliance by sub contractors and engage with them to ensure consistent safety standards (inc. Safety critical paperwork).
3. Conduct accident investigations ensuring problems are appropriately addressed and rectified:
- Conduct accident/incident investigations, supporting colleagues to rectify any procedural failings
- Produce reports and liaise with clients in closing down incidents in a timely manner
- Utilise Network Rail consequence matrix to provide consistent investigation outcome
- Ensure action is taken to rectify the problem on site
- Ensure all accidents are incidents are reported in the correct timescales to the correct recipient both internally and externally.

The Ideal Candidate:
• NEBOSH Construction Certificate or NEBOSH Diploma
• Experience and expertise gained in working in a similar role
• Experience in accident investigation and root cause analysis
• Ability to engage with Site Managers and Colleagues to gain buy in to H&S agenda
• Excellent IT and reporting skills
• Excellent communication skills
• Ability to work on one’s own initiative
• Identify risk to the business and opportunities for improvement
• Forward thinking with ability to predict future risk profile based on work pipeline
• High degree of attention to detail
• Ability to deliver educational tools / training and development initiatives
