Co-ordinating HSSE activities from meetings to undertaking and tracking of audits and incident recommendations. Whilst technical knowledge would be an advantage, an interest in safety and a display of enthusiasm are a priority. You will be expected to undertake further training courses as required.
Maintaining, monitoring, reviewing and enhancing Railways' performance through statistical analysis of HSSE related data to identify trends that will aid the company in reducing accidents & incidents and meeting HSSE Plan goals. Provide the company's principal support for the industry's SMIS system.
Providing HSSE's support for the Compass system, its HSSE statistical reporting processes and supervising the maintenance of the Railways employee and customer accident databases as well as ensuring the accuracy of the information. Also act as the lead for recording and reporting environmental performance internally and to industry stakeholders.
Additional responsibilities include the preparation of regular graphical studies and reports for senior management and to control data collection procedures.
Additionally, the post will regularly liaise with external parties including ORR, BTP, RSSB, civil police, Network Rail and London Underground.
SPECIFIC STATUTORY DUTIES
Under sections 7 & 8 of the Health and Safety At Work etc Act 1974, it is the duty of every employee while at work:

KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES
- Manage the accident reporting procedure, ensuring investigations are concluded, actions and recommendations are suitably tracked to conclusion
- Oversee the review of daily log items raised in Compass to ensure accuracy, appropriateness and sufficiency and undertake action to resolve issues arising
- Maintain the master data spreadsheets that drive the HSSE performance metrics for the department, business and interested stakeholders
- Act as the HSSE representative for Compass administration, training and user acceptance Testing
- Supervise the maintenance of Compass and the Coruson/Jaspersoft systems to ensure security of the systems and that HSSE related entries are fit for purpose
- Maintain, update and correct all historic SMIS records, performing Data Quality exercises and reviews under instruction, where appropriate, from RSSB
- Oversee the administration of and input into the SMIS system.
- Interrogate the Compass and Jaspersoft systems for outputs and KPIs
- Liaise with RSSB on the development of SMIS and act as the Chiltern Railways SMIS co-ordinator and representative at the RSSB Safety Stats Analysis Group
- Complete data collection from various systems in order to collate statistics for various Safety, Security and Environmental KPIs
- Produce periodic HSSE reports for the company or third parties as required
- Carry out analysis of accidents and incidents to determine trends and make recommendations for corrective and preventative action to the Executive Group
- Act as the co-coordinator for consultation documentation from external parties such as RSSB
- Prepare and populate graphical studies and periodic/monthly reports for senior management, Arriva Group/AUKT, external stakeholders and industry regulators
- Liaise with the finance team for employee and public incident compensation claims against the company and ensure effective management of the safety elements of accident and injury claims against the Company
- Manage the CRCL close call process and ensure issues raised are tracked to conclusion
- Assist the HSSE Manager - Corporate as required
- Provide assistance when required to the other HSSE Managers and the Head of HSSE
- Undertake procedure document reviews as required
- Act as the HSSE department representative for the Business Improvement Group and department administrator for the One Stop Shop (OSS) system
- Complete Audits as part of the department annual schedule
- In liaison with and with support from the HSSE Manager - Corporate, be involved in, and potentially lead, HSSE workstreams that can reduce safety risk and strengthen the company's safety performance
QUALIFICATIONS & EXPERIENCE
Essential
- Be articulate and numerate, possessing good communication skills;
- Be a good team player;
- Have robust IT skills and confidence in the use of standard packages such as Excel and Word
Desirable
- Hold, or be working towards, the NEBOSH certificate in Occupational Safety and Health;
- Have a good working knowledge of health, safety, and environmental law and subordinate legislation;
- Possess a good understanding of railway operations.
