Principal Consultant - Traffic Modelling in London, London, United Kingdom


You should have experience of traffic modelling roles, with a specific understanding and appreciation of those for Transport for London (TfL). We undertake a number of large commissions for our clients which involves building and applying traffic models as part of transport planning, and infrastructure projects. As market leaders we seek driven, experienced professionals who have a strong aptitude for communication. You will have the technical skills, relevant experience, and understanding of the market required to manage varied, challenging projects for public and private sector clients in the UK.
As a Principal Consultant you will take a central role in teams comprised of junior and more senior experts in the areas relevant to your projects. You will work closely with our market-leading Associates and Directors across our offices, who will actively support you in project delivery and in your wider career development.

Experience/skills required:
In this role, you will be required to:

  • Specify and manage the development of traffic models underpinning our advice to clients, including primary data collection, model network development, model calibration and validation, model testing and sense checking;
  • Integration of modelling analysis within a wider project team, ensuring that the model outputs can be incorporated and contribute towards improving the highway network;
  • Interrogate and interpret traffic modelling outputs into key messages in the form of reports, memos and presentations;
  • Lead work streams within projects with limited supervision, ensuring that best practice techniques are applied consistently; and
  • Contribute to the production and delivery of proposals and marketing materials related to our market area from time to time

To be successful in the role, you will:

  • Possess relevant London experience in the use of traffic modelling packages such as VISSIM, TRANSYT, LINSIG Aimsum, and ARCADY.
  • Demonstrate strong analytical skills as well as excellent written and verbal communication skills;
  • Be able to influence colleagues and clients through a balance of supportive and challenging behaviors;
  • Comfortable working in creative multi-disciplinary teams with architects etc. and provide positive contributions in resolving complex design problems;
  • Professional and academic qualifications in transport engineering e.g. MSc, BEng or similar;
  • Take responsibility for key tasks and work streams, successfully managing multiple deadlines in parallel; and
  • An appreciation of the policy, regulatory and commercial aspects of the transport sector would be helpful.
  • Applicants should be familiar with Microsoft Office software including Word and Excel.
  • Knowledge and experience in using Railplan and/or other TfL modelling platforms e.g. LTS, HAM models, ONE model would be useful but is not essential.
