About the role / project:
Network Rail is looking for a Senior Asset Engineer within their Route Businesses SOUTH EAST function to manage asset performance and condition with regards to Geotechnical & Drainage work, specifically looking at remits for CP6 (Control Period 6) work to begin in 2019/2020.
You will lead the maintenance and renewal of earthworks, drainage and other associated assets, providing geotechnical engineering expertise to the key stakeholders and customers.
What you will do:
Lead the examination, evaluation, assessment and risk management of geotechnical and drainage assets.
Undertake the evaluation of geotechnical and drainage examinations specifying necessary maintenance and renewal work.
Monitor trends for asset condition, failures and failure precursors and maintenance and renewal work. Confirm that geotechnical and drainage risks are mitigated, and if necessary, appropriate action is specified and undertaken and that comprehensive records are maintained.
Implement control measures where proposed interventions are deferred.
Undertake engineering verifications.
Support investigations into significant failures that affect the safety and performance of assets. Implement actions to mitigate the risk of reoccurrence.
Lead the engineering input to the geotechnical and drainage examination contracts. Investigate and resolve technical and quality issues with suppliers.
Your experience will include:
You will be a degree qualified (geology, civil or equivalent) engineer with existing drainage knowledge who understands Network Rail processes and the standards applicable to Geotechnical engineering.
Predominantly based in Network Rail's London Cottons Centre office, however, site visits will be required from time to time.
You will be preferably Chartered or near Chartered status in your field and have five to ten years' experience in geotechnics and rail (preferred).
Incorporated Engineer
Degree in a relevant subject or equivalent
Membership of relevant professional institution
Substantial experience of railway civil engineering, with proven abilities in geotechnical and drainage asset maintenance and renewals
A sound knowledge of geotechnical and drainage engineering policies and standards
An understanding of safety management systems and risk assessment techniques
Experience in Construction Design and Management Regulations
