Senior Ecologist || Senior Environmental Consultant || Biodiversity Technical Specialist
We are working alongside one of the largest High Speed Rail projects, and are looking for a Biodiversity Technical Specialist or Senior Ecologist to join a small, but busy team of 3 on a full-time basis.
In the position, you will be involved with the internal client function, and be responsible for the creation and reviewing of policy documents, environmental and ecological standards, liaising with statutory bodies, and producing Environmental Statement documents.
You will also be responsible for reviewing the technical outputs of external contractors and agents, producing HRA's, Policy Statements, and other ecological documentation.
The position is aimed at reducing the Environmental Impacts of the construction, delivery, and functioning of this major project, so candidates would need excellent knowledge of habitat protection, conservation, and creation.
The position is aimed to last the longevity of the project, so could be considered to be a "job for life" as the project is due to be completed in 2040.
Job Description:
- Be part of the natural Environment team
- Develop specification and policy for NGOs and Governing bodies In relation to proposals and issues
- Actively seek to mitigate environmental and ecological impacts along the rail route
- Develop opportunities for the creation of new habitats to prevent a net loss of biodiversity
- Ensure the construction of the project does not reduce biodiversity of the environment
- Prepare, review and draft material for programme designs to ensure mitigation of its impact on biodiversity
- Manage outputs of external contractors and allocated budgets
- Provide information to key agencies (DfT, DEFRA, Natural England and Forestry Commission)
