Our client currently has requirements for a Senior Commercial Manager (Pre-Contract) for their York Offices on a permanent basis only.

Reporting to the Principal Commercial Manager the main responsibilities will be:

Main responsibilities

  • Work with the project teams to identify variations, compile and communicate them to clients and agree additional money and/or time;
  • Responsible for maintaining up to date trackers to fulfil business requirements;
  • Production of monthly cash flow forecasts and review of Anticipated Final Cost (AFC) and Anticipated Final Billable (AFB);
  • Work with the Planning department and design teams to ensure each project programme is fully cost loaded;
  • Must be able to demonstrate that strong commercial controls in place on each project;
  • Responsible risk and opportunity management including the control of project contingency;
  • Support the pre-contract stage (e.g. the bidding process) with estimating (where required) and reviews of contract documentation;
  • Report to the Commercial Team Leader with regular project updates at all times demonstrating a thorough understating of the current status;
  • Fulfil corporate governance by attending monthly governance boards to raise and discuss key commercial issues affecting projects;
  • Responsible to ensuring the business achieves its annual target and utilisation targets both personally and for direct reports are met;
  • Present financial position to allow Final Account agreement to be reached;
  • Monitor Work in Progress (WIP) to ensure work in invoiced regularly;
  • An understanding of Payment Notices and payment cycles;

Skills/Experience required

  • Excellent contract awareness - will be required to work with various standard forms of contract and bespoke agreements;
  • Quantity Surveying, Commercial Manager or similar construction related degree. Ideally MRICS or working towards;
  • Maintain and demonstrate Continuous Professional Development (CPD);
  • To work on a portfolio of projects, predominantly Rail related however to include others across a range of sectors (e.g. Energy, Aviation, Security and Defence).
