Senior Contracts Engineer in Birmingham, West Midlands, United Kingdom

My client one of the UK largest civil engineering and construction contractors are seeking a Senior Contracts Engineer to join their specialist groundworks subsidiary in Birmingham, with a focus on a key HS2 project.

As the Senior Contracts Engineer you be will responsible for carrying out the following;

  • Manage internal resource and subcontractors;
  • Ensure that the works are constructed in accordance with the contract and design information, drawings, specification and Project Management Plan;
  • Produce and review construction methods statements ensuring that the works are constructed efficiently and safely;
  • Produce all site documentation for delivery of the works including PMP, PVPMP, ITP, Construction Phase Management Plan etc. as required;
  • Develop then work to programmes, measuring progress and productivity outputs;
  • Understand and apply the procedures and processes detailed in the project Health, Safety and Environmental plans, and to promote a safe working culture;
  • Ensuring the works are undertaken safely and in accordance with Health, Safety & Environmental legislation and the site HS&E plans. Prepare and review risk assessments;
  • Support and drive behavioural safety on site;
  • Be responsible for the monitoring, progress reporting and achieving of goals for the work under his/her responsibility;
  • Anticipate and resolve problems, in particular related to engineering issues;
  • Manage construction records, O&M manuals and as built drawings;
  • Support our “Customer Focus”, “Construction Excellence” and “Innovation” strategy;
  • Undertake client meeting and pre-contract meetings.

Experience Required

  • As the successful applicant you will present the following skills and experience;
  • Ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing, with people at all levels across the organisation and externally;
  • Strong computer skills - focused on Excel / Word / PowerPoint;
  • 5 years’ experience in the construction industry;
  • Experience in delivery of civil engineering contracts on various scales;
  • Ability to manage multiple teams efficiently;
  • Ability to manage multiple scheme costs;
  • Ability to manage Health and Safety including Behavioural Safety;
  • Ability to lead, communicate and influence others to deliver targets;
  • SSSTS or SMSTS.

Applicants with an applicable civil engineering degree and / or equivalent experience gained across piling, ground engineering with a civils subcontractor will be held in strong contention.
