About the vacancy:
Coombes is seeking a full time Senior Ecologist to play an integral role in the development and implementation of our Environmental Strategy. As Senior Ecologist you will establish, manage and develop ecological management strategies, plans and resources across the company. You will ensure senior management is kept informed of the ecological status of our active sites and be experienced in data collation and technical report-writing.
This is also a hands-on role in which you will conduct ecological studies and impact assessments across a range of projects and environments to identify and advise how Coombes can balance the needs of our projects with those of the environment. You will subsequently implement, monitor and evaluate protective actions/measures etc., reporting to senior management as required.
The ideal candidate will be pragmatic, an excellent communicator, self-motivated and able to work autonomously. As well as sharing the ethos and values of our Company and having significant experience as an Ecologist, candidates must also have the following:
- Degree in a related subject, or equivalent
- Protected species handling licence/s (ideally dormice, newts, bats)
- Associate Member of CIEEM
- Highly organised with excellent analytical and report-writing skills
- Rail PTS qualified (desirable)
- Experience in the rail industry (desirable)
- Line management experience (desirable)
You will be field-based for a significant amount of your time, so you must be happy to work in all that the British weather has to offer! Based in Hampshire and conducting field work across the southern region, the successful candidate must be flexible in their approach to work, have a full driving licence and be willing to travel.
Salary: £35,000 - £40,000 DOE. A Company van will be available for the postholder.
Working hours: 40 hours per week, to be worked Monday - Friday, 8:00am - 5:00pm with 1hr unpaid break each day. This role will require some out of hours working associated with ecological surveys, including weekends, evenings and overnight.
