Job Title: Senior Ergonomics Specialist
Location: York
Duration: 6 months possible extension
Rate: 300-400/day
Short Description:
Support the development and implementation of company ergonomics policy, standards and competence, focussing on the efficient achievement of our clients goals. Provide specialist ergonomics input to major projects, system developments and process improvements.
1. Provide expert advice, input and support on the application of ergonomics for our customers and suppliers
2. Support professional leadership in ergonomics services
3. Provide expert advice, support and input to investigations, incidents and operational issues
4. Support ergonomics analysis, design and risk assessment, including assessment, specification and integration of ergonomics input in system development and infrastructure projects
5. Assess applications for project approvals, standards derogations and non-compliances
6. Support setting of policy and standards, operational processes and systems. Manage the design and delivery of programmes for the development of technical capability and non-technical skills required within the Company, including competence frameworks, selection and training materials.
7. Support technical input into the development of standards, specifications and compliance criteria for human factors in engineering, projects, maintenance and operations
8. Provide ergonomics support for product, system and method development across functions and with industry partners
9. Provide support and challenge for standards works outside of the Company that may impact the ergonomics aspects, systems or processes
10. Provide focal point for assessing and approving the ergonomics aspects arising from new methods of working, products, complex systems and projects, particularly those introducing major technological change
11. Identify opportunities for technical and business process and tools improvements and innovations, developing or supporting the development of business cases and Investment Papers where required
12. Act as Delivery Manager for delivery of a specific project or portfolio of projects
13. Deliver projects to time, cost and quality standards with efficient resource usage
14. Represent our clients externally to the industry and input to European issues as required
15. Integrate and co-ordinate activity across different Capability Functions
Essential
• Degree or equivalent in a relevant discipline or able to demonstrate an equivalent level of experience
• Experience in researching and developing ergonomics or human factors methods, tools or knowledge in industrial domains
• Experience of applying ergonomics techniques and processes to complex system design
• Knowledge of relevant standards
• Understanding of safety management systems and risk assessment techniques
• Project or financial planning and management experience
• Management or supervisory experience
Desirable
• Advanced degree (MSc or better) in a relevant subject
• Professional Member of the Institute of Ergonomics and Human Factors (or other equivalent human factors body) or of the British Psychological Society
• Proven ability in managing commercial, contractual and financial issues
• Knowledge of the railway industry, railway infrastructure and operational roles
