Senior / Principal Ecologist
Location: Derbyshire
Minimum Requirements for the role.
- Degree in relevant field;
- 10+ years of experience in ecology or environmental disciplines;
- Full Member of CIEEM (or eligible to meet relevant criteria);
- Holder of relevant protected species survey licences (England essential, Wales also preferable);
- Have been named ecologist on one or more development / mitigation licences on one or more species within the last 3 years;
- Have excellent knowledge of UK and European environmental legislation and policies and Ecological Impact Assessment (EcIA);
- Experience in a range of habitat and species surveys, mitigation and licencing;
- Have excellent fieldwork and report writing skills including protected species surveys, mitigation and licencing and writing of management plans;
- Experience of EcIA plus BREEAM, BNG or HRA;
- Experience with GIS packages, preferably ESRI;
- Demonstrable history of delivering high quality ecology projects on time and in budget;
- Professional, organised and thorough approach to work which demonstrates an attention to detail and ability to use own initiative when appropriate;
- Ability to manage own workload, be proactive in managing projects and be able to delegate to and provide support to junior staff as appropriate;
- Adaptable and flexible approach to work to meet peaks in demands (as all roles are likely to involve occasional longer/and or unsociable hours and a degree of working away from home for days / weeks at a time);
- Full clean UK driving licence.

Due to ongoing business success, we are looking for Senior or Principal Ecologists in order to enable further growth and delivery of the company's strong work portfolio. Any successful candidate will become part of a professional, hard-working and passionate team working on arrange of projects.
The role will involve project management on a wide range of ecology projects including large infrastructure projects in the Midlands and projects across England and Wales. Some of these are complex ecology projects with multiple protected species or priority habitats. In addition to project management, you will be responsible for client liaison, work creation / winning and survey programming.
As part of the ecology senior management team, you will be given line management of up to 4 staff and be responsible for mentoring staff and undertaking technical reviews of surveys, data and reporting on a range of projects. It is expected that any successful candidate will work with the management team, inputting into strategies and to continue examining new avenues for future work.
There is a lot of opportunity to develop a role in the future to include projects that are a bit more unique where appropriate.
