We are currently dealing with a major Design Engineering consultancy who are looking to recruit a Senior or Project Manager on a contract basis in York working on major rail projects like TRU and HS2. As the Rail Project Manager your will Plan the project(s) in sufficient detail to ensure integration of all activities, dependencies, and understanding of critical paths and key milestones.  You will ensure a comprehensive budget is prepared, reflecting the plan and all resource needs which includes working collaboratively with internal and external stakeholders, at all levels within the organisation to define and achieve mutual understanding of the scope.  You will direct and motivate the project team(s) to achieve the desired results, often using matrix management, and ensure effective communication is maintained throughout the project liaising with different core rail disciplines. Other typical duties of the Senior or Rail Project Manager can include, but not limited to:

• Responsible for delivering the projects safely to agreed time, cost and quality and in accordance with the Project Governance Process and Integrated Management System (IMS) and all other relevant systems and processes.
• Ensure that projects comply fully with all statutory and regulatory provisions including all health, safety, environment and CDM Regulations.
• Proactively review, identify and resolve any problems in project delivery, including anticipated problems as well as over-spend and late delivery.
• Provide project reports as required in line with Project Governance, Client and Business requirements.
• Undertake a contract review prior to project start up.
• Lead and direct a multi-disciplinary project team providing necessary support as required.

Job Requirements

• Significant experience within the Rail industry ideally and proven experience of delivering projects to time, cost and quality.
• Robust stakeholder management skills and a natural ability to expand and develop client relationships
• Experience working within a Project Management role within a Design consultancy ideally on rail projects.
• Sound Commercial and Contractual understanding of commonly used Construction Industry Contracts.
• Experience of different project management approaches e.g. agile and waterfall.
