About us:

XEIAD is a Civil Engineering Consultancy specialising in Structures Asset Management Engineering and difficult access inspections of the Rail and Highway infrastructure with offices based across the UK.

Main Purpose:

To support the Structures Engineering Team in the efficient and effective provision of technical delivery and compliance with the contract technical specification and standards

Key Responsibilities:

  • Ensure that safety is always the priority, promote safe working practices, ensure full implementation and compliance with Key Processes and Safety Responsibility Matrix
  • Act as deputy to the Structures Team Manager, undertaking responsibilities as directed
  • Support the Technical Head - Rail in technical and engineering issues
  • Undertake the process of engineering STE2 review and submission of examination reports within your region, including risk scoring and recommendations, in accordance with the contract specification and timescales
  • Undertake on-call duties as Duty/Engineering Manager as required
  • Undertake the role of Nominated CRE Engineering for Routes within your region as required
  • Undertake tunnel examination (STE6) as required
  • Coach, mentor and supervise all Engineers within the team based on their individual experience and capability
  • Support the career development of team members to promote a highly engaged and high-performing team
  • As required, investigate any incidents related to structures examination activities and provide technical support and advice relative to these incidents
  • Ensure that the technical issues and best practice are identified by the engineering team during the review / assurance process or report rejections
  • Ensure that technical briefings are subsequently held with the route examination teams
  • Improve and evolve our engineering systems, tools and processes so that we can drive efficiency and bring benefits to Xeiad and to Network Rail.
  • Ensure that the route examination teams are supported by the Structures Engineering team in order to ensure that; Technically compliant reports are produced in a consistent manner with minimal rejections Examiner competence is managed effectively, including briefing, training, mentorship and assessment
  • Establish and maintain collaborative relationships with Network Rail, in order that their technical requirements are fully understood and implemented

Essential Experience, Qualifications & Skills

  • At least 10years engineering experience in structures examination, maintenance or construction Degree or equivalent in Civil Engineering or related discipline (additional relevant experience may be considered in lieu on an individual basis).
  • Chartered or Incorporated Civil or Structural Engineer (additional relevant experience, qualifications or professional status may be considered in lieu on an individual basis)
  • Knowledge and understanding of the key engineering processes and technical standards for delivering structural examinations on the rail infrastructure
  • Knowledge and understanding of Health, Safety, Quality and Environmental procedures
  • STE2 competent
  • Full, clean UK driving licence
  • IT Literate (Microsoft Office)

Desirable Experience, Qualifications & Skills

  • Over 15years experience in structures engineering, specifically structures asset management in a rail environment
  • Experienced coach and/or mentor, i.e. ICE Delegated/Supervisory Engineer
  • PTS
  • STE6 Tunnel Examiner
  • A1 Assessor or Qualified Trainer
