Position Senior Telecom Engineer

Location Northern California

Typical expertise should include:

• Information and Security Systems (CCTV, Public Address, Passenger Information)
• SCADA

Day-to-day activities will include leading and advising on the technical aspects of electronic control and telecommunications system design for railway and mass transit transportation projects. The successful candidate would also be expected to lead and manage small teams of experienced engineers, and to oversee the development of apprentices and junior engineers.

Responsibilities

In addition to Electronic Control Systems and Telecommunication Systems design you will undertake design management and review, as well as participating in multidisciplinary design and feasibility studies and other general consulting activities.

Typical responsibilities will include:

• Consulting with the client to develop a full understanding of their technical requirements
• Providing clients with technical advice based upon industry best-practice and the recommendation of appropriate technology to suit the requirements
• Developing project documentation, design methodologies and solutions to client functional and operational requirements
• Production and checking of high-quality systems designs, specifications, reports and working drawings within agreed timescales and budgets
• Technically leading packages of design work and supervising junior engineers
• Developing junior staff through mentoring and supervising their design activities as they work towards becoming licensed.
• Undertaking site surveys and technical investigations
• Assisting with the preparation of bids for winning new work and identifying opportunities for business development
• Providing technical consultancy services to clients

Requirements

• Strong technical background and domain experience gained within an organisation undertaking electronic control and telecommunications systems design works ideally on underground/ metro/ mainline projects or equivalent safety-critical industries where parallels can be demonstrated
• Familiarity, or ability to quickly become familiar, with relevant standards and processes
• Demonstrable understanding of electronic control systems and telecommunications systems principles, design processes and documentation related to the electronic systems identified above
• Ideally an understanding of train control systems and other rail system disciplines
• Chartered Engineer and a degree in Electrical / Electronic engineering (or equivalent experience)
