Missions & main activities
We are currently expanding in the UK and Ireland, growing our business and our team. One of the exciting projects the Systems Engineer will work on relates to the execution of the Birmingham tramway network extension contract. The aim of this once-renewable five-year contract is to construct 4 km of new line in the coming three years (three extensions) and an additional 15 km in the following five years (two additional lines).
The role of Egis Rail is included in a partnership agreement called "The Midland Metro Alliance" which brings together the Prime Contractor, the Construction Consortium and the Engineering Office.
This exciting role for a Systems Engineer will be responsible for design information management and also undertakes or assists engineers and experts on technical subjects. The individual will also be responsible for supporting with interface management between sub-systems, ensuring that interface issues are dealt with and closed in a timely manner across various technical sub-systems.
This is a really exciting opportunity for an individual with a project engineering background (or similar) who is interested in developing their technical knowledge in the rail and light rail industry.
The Systems Engineer will work closely with Egis Rail UK and other Egis subsidiaries. The role will also require supporting the organisation to build and grow.

Key role responsibilities
This is a permanent role supporting various Egis projects; however, the initial project will be to support the Midlands Metro Alliance (MMA), which Egis are a part of, with the design of the Midlands Metro extension.
The key responsibilities of the role are as follows:
Systems Design
- Production of designs, specifications and procurement processes.
- Management of third-party suppliers from initial engagement through to final delivery.
- Check shop drawings and calculations provided by suppliers.
- Preparation and participation of IDC/IDR.
- Assist in the supervision works in accordance with the contractual and technical specifications, performance specifications and RAMS requirements.
- Take responsibility for all design issues during construction including changes and adaptations.
- Respond to technical queries.
- Perform factory inspections specially for systems and communication equipment, as requested.
- Assist in reporting, helping the Systems Coordinator to produce all regular reports.
- Assist with logistics and coordination of technical tasks.
- Assist with management of the Design information (document control, File Tracking and Records on the Document Management System).
- Play an active role in the testing and commissioning stages.
Interface management
- Support the implementation of necessary Interface management processes and tools to allow an optimum technical coordination between the different sub-systems
- Support with identifying and following up on technical project requirements.
- Ensure that Interface management is active, understood and visible for sub-systems.
- Maintain relevant KPIs to track progress and any issues, to be included within project review reports.
- Work with all sub-systems to ensure consistency in technical decisions across the programme.
- Ensure the successful organization of the IDR and IDC milestones.
- Support stakeholders and the engineering and project management teams, as required.
- Oversee change requests and modifications and facilitate communication with all relevant disciplines.
- During the construction stage, monitor the interface procedures between the Design and the Construction teams.
- Check that interfaces management during construction related to the systems and communication components are performed as per requirements.
Qualifications and experience
- BSc or other relevant degree.
- AMIRSE/MIRSE license desirable.
- Relevant experience in the rail sector and/or systems engineering, interface management or project engineering.
- A clear understanding of a multi-disciplinary design approach and the delivery of projects to a high quality, throughout all design stage gates.
- Has good understanding of all relevant BIM standards, design procedures and relevant legislation.
- Knowledge and experience of Network Rail’s standards and processes will be considered a plus.
- Knowledge of AutoCAD, Civil 3D or other relevant software will be considered a plus.
- Ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing.
- Excellent organisational and communication skills and the ability to manage multi-disciplinary teams, and high attention to detail.
- A strong team player.
