Technical Director - Rolling Stock in Derby, United Kingdom

Are you a rolling stock expert who has a strong understanding of manufacturing, overhaul, maintenance and modification of various classes and types of railway vehicles? Perhaps a Head of or a Lead Engineer looking to step into a more technical role?

Ford Stanley - The Rail Recruitment Specialists are working with a rail SME in the Midlands who specialise in vehicle and railway overhaul and maintenance, supporting them in recruiting for a Technical Director – someone who can arrive at the business with a high level of specific rolling stock knowledge. The successful candidate will work alongside the various departments to develop technical specifications, head up bids and proposals and manage compliance throughout the business.

The business is going through positive changes and has the potential to be a real force in the rail industry. The type of people they are trying to recruit in the UK business must be willing to 'roll up their sleeves', drive changes, adapt to changing cultures and environments.

Responsibilities

  • Development of bid document technical content including initial opportunity development discussions with both potential customers and supply chain partners.
  • Development of technical standards and work control documents.
  • Ensuring in collaboration with the Assurance Director that a suitably qualified and experienced person is appointed to the role of Professional Head of Engineering.
  • Development and fitness for purpose of engineering designs for modification and re-engineering projects including the selection, oversight and control of external technical consultants and supply chain partners.
  • Management and maintenance of tools, systems and processes for the development and control of technical information and subsequent management of intellectual property and engineering records arising.
  • Approval of bid document technical aspects including initial indications
