Operations and Marketing Manager

Status: Permanent

Remuneration: £30 to £45k, dependent on experience

Reports To: Chief Executive Officer

Job Overview

The purpose of the role is to support the CEO in all marketing activities to raise awareness of the Centre and its services, as well as assisting with the operational aspects of setting up and running the Innovation Centre during the start-up phase through to the successful launch.

The Company

Located in Dudley in the West Midlands, anew purpose-built Innovation Centre for rail and last mile passenger transport, is planned to open for business in the summer of 2021. The facility will include an engineering hall, laboratories and outdoor test tracks for rail and light rail vehicles. The Centre will operate via a Hub and Spoke model with University partners.

This role will be funded by the European Development Fund (2014-2020).

Main Responsibilities and Duties

• Development of business focused marketing and communications materials
• Design, deliver and manage all aspects of public and local business community events
• Work with the CEO and Finance and Administration Manager to put in place the back-office systems for functions including visitor reception, purchasing, CRM, Human Resources, Health & Safety and Quality.
• Managing and delivering business and operational projects as requested on time within budgets
• Managing Public Relations for the Centre, including media engagement, working with colleagues and partners to issue press releases, contributed articles and other communication materials
• Work as part of a team to implement local business engagement
• Increase outreach by actively managing and build of the company website, developing social media presence and arranging webinars for the prospective client community
• Preparation and delivery of detailed business reports for use at Board level
• Interacting with internal and external contacts to resolve business and project issues

Preferred Background, Experience & Qualifications

• Professional level qualification in business administration or marketing
• Appropriate experience of all aspects of up-to-date marketing and business administration
• Evidence of managing significant business projects ideally involving project management software
• Ability to engage with people at all levels using clear communication and effective influencing skills, and build strong working relationships with internal and external contacts
• Previous experience of business start-up
• Creative and strategic approach to communication and engagement campaigns
• Ability to work flexible hours and conduct business travel as required
• Ability to see projects through from concept to completion
• Excellent command of written and oral English language
• Experience of industrial or academic research projects would be desirable, as would experience in rail or other transport related engineering sector
• An effective problem solver and autonomous decision maker
