Project / Team: Wayside Infrastructure
The Wayside Infrastructure team is working to deliver a scope that will provide the infrastructure for the signalling systems needed to complete the Sub-Surface Railway (SSR) Upgrade. The SSR Upgrade is a multi billion pound programme to deliver replacement of fleet and signalling assets across the 4 lines of the Circle, District, Metropolitan and Hammersmith and City Lines.
The Wayside Infrastructure team will deliver over £150 million of infrastructure to support the wider goals of the programme.
This work will include implementing cable route management systems, signalling equipment rooms and electrical infrastructure delivering all projects within a tightly controlled budget programme and matrix organisation structure.
The planned E&M concept and detailed design of the Signalling Equipment rooms (SER) will be done in-house.
The in-house design team will be responsible for successfully delivering the concept design through to Stage Gate 3 and the detailed design through to Stage Gate 4 for each migration area.
The in-house design team will be responsible for the co-ordination of the design with other discipline services and ensure that the design is delivered to meet the programme.
* This role will require the Discipline Engineers to be self-motivated, creative, and able to work within a complex matrix structure in order to ensure that progress is made within the project.
* The works are to be completed in a complex matrix environment, and will require substantial outputs of design in a short time frame - this will ensure that the Discipline Engineer gets a very good understanding of early stage design by the end of the secondment.
* The Discipline Engineer will gain good Client design office experience
Purpose of the role:
* The Discipline Engineer is tasked with taking a leading role to work within the matrix defined team to produce and deliver the SER designs (and in particular the E&M Design) and all needed project assurance documents.
* Day to day management engineering stakeholders including APD
* Ensuring that the Mechanical Services design is delivered to meet the SER Project design and construction programme deadlines.
* May be required to undertake Mechanical Services designs for other LU Projects.
* Provide assurance to the SUP Principal E&M Engineer on the design and contractors site installation works.
* Carry out technical review of Contractors tender documentation and Compliance Design submission documentation.
* Provide technical support and respond to technical queries from site relating to Mechanical services.
* Manage the preparation/review of Handover documents i.e. MAID to APD
Additional Specific Job Details:
* Essential Working Knowledge of current British standards and Statutory Regulations.
* Qualification : Minimum HND/HNC/HTC in Mechanical or Building Services and Minimum 5 years experience in similar type role
* Experience of managing Assurance and co-ordination of multi-discipline requirements with the development of E&M engineered solutions
* Experience of Working in railway environment and LU specific practices
* Awareness of LU safety standards - QUENSH
* Experience of working in a Project with any of the following disciplines Signalling, Power, Mechanical, Civil, Premises, Fire and Communication
* Recognised membership of professional institution (e.g IMechE/CIBSE) is essential.
* Essential ability to produce Mechanical designs, co-ordination of multi-discipline requirements with the development of E&M building solutions in the LU network
* Capable of writing, reviewing and accepting Mechanical design & calculation reports and risk assessment report.
* Capable of undertaking critical review of other Mechanical team members designs.
* Understanding of programme deadlines and ability to meet cost and engineering solutions
* Must be pro-active and have the ability to work independently and within a team.
* Knowledge of CDM Regulations is essential.
* A broad understanding of LU processes and procedures
* Knowledge of LU standards and stage works
* Ability to plan and manage tasks to time, budget and quality
Additional Specific Job Details:
Mechanical:
* Experience in the design and installation of Split air-conditioning, VRF and ventilation systems, this shall include the sizing of pipes, cables and controls philosophy.
* Produce solar/heat gain calculations for internal gains to the rooms
* Liaise with the signalling consultants to assess the internal signalling equipment heat loads.
* Size the Cooling equipment required to maintain the required temperatures as per LU standards within the SER's
* Carry out calculations to assess the Lower explosive limit (LEL) of gases produced by the charging of batteries and the level of ventilation required.
* Survey the location of the SER to assess any impacts on the SER that may affect the cooling and ventilation systems and that we don't impact on others, such as residents.
* Experience in the design of hot and cold water services including sizing of pipes and equipment.
* Experience in design of heating and chilled water systems.
* Experience in the design of above ground drainage system including sizing of pipes and pumps where applicable.
* Experience in the design of Gas system will be desirable.
* Experience in the design of ventilation system, this shall include sizing of duct work, air handling plant etc.
* Knowledge of Controls and BMS systems
* Produced individual detailed scheme layout sketches and notes for the in-house CAD resources so they can carry out the production of fully detailed working design drawings.
* Produce generic and individual detailed specific specifications for the contractor to carry out the installation to a high standard.
* The applicant should be able to produce life cycle assessment for systems and equipment selected.
