Electro Mechanical Technican in Manchester, United Kingdom
CAF is one of the international market leaders in the design, manufacture, maintenance and supply of equipment and components for rail systems with presence across the globe in all continents. In the UK market we are present for more than a decade and now we are expanding exponentially through a corporate holding and two differentiated business units: rolling stock and rail services. CAF Rolling Stock UK Ltd will start operating a brand new assembly facility in Newport (Wales) with a workforce of around 300 staff.
Technicians are expected to work alone or as part of a team, at all times ensuring that the appropriate Health & Safety and Depot Protection procedures are followed.
After completion of repairs or modifications, the technicians must sign off the defect or modification record to indicate that the work is complete and that the train is fit for passenger service with the Railways.
They must contribute to good depot housekeeping and maintain health and safety standards in accordance with CAF Rail UK procedures.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
The technicians are expected to be capable of working on the following types of systems repairing and replacing major components;
- Large diesel engines and transmission
- High voltage diesel-generator sets
- HVAC (Heating Ventilation Air Conditioning
- High pressure hydraulics up to 300 bar
- High pressure pneumatics up to 12 bar
- Traction control and Brake system
- Highly complex cab control systems including GPS positioning, On-track Safety Systems and Passenger Information Systems
- Passenger access doors both external and internal
- Troubleshoot and carry out corrective repairs necessary to ensure warranty of the trams equipment (doors, pneumatic equipment, hydraulic brakes and auxiliary equipment, HV circuits, refrigeration equipment, motors, traction equipment etc.)
- Cabinet integration, wiring and panel building
- Receiving parts from spares list, fitting from schematics
- Wiring and integration of circuit breakers, relays, transformers, insulators, cabinets, motors, and other associated electrical parts
- Troubleshooting problems with assembly
- Soldering for sub assembly
- Use of a variety of electrical testing equipment including Potable appliance testing equipment
- Performing final wiring and checks
REQUIRED ACADEMIC SKILL
- NVQ Level 3 (or equivalent) in Electrical/ Mechanical Engineering
REQUIRED PROFESSIONAL EXPERIENCE:
- 3 years post apprenticeship experience
- Diagnostic experience
- Applicants from an automotive or aerospace background will be of particular interest.
- Able to interpret electrical, hydraulic and pneumatic schematic diagrams
- Valid Driver’s Licence
- Available for shift work (Days & Nights including weekends
