A leading international rail company are looking for a Mechanical Systems Engineer to conduct work in their North London depot. It is essential you have a strong background in Rolling Stock.
PURPOSE OF THE JOB
As part of Metro Trains' Engineering department, the responsibility of this post is to provide product knowledge and support to operations and the customer on mechanical systems. The mechanical systems engineer will have personal responsibility for the performance of a number of systems in order to maintain and improve the safety, reliability and availability of the rolling stock and trackside equipment and to optimise maintenance costs.
RESPONSIBILITIES
- To manage closure logged technical issues associated with systems and equipment
- To establish, with the co-operation of suppliers, customers and other functions, the root causes of failures of systems and equipment
- In support of QSRW, to undertake technical investigations into safety related incidents ensuring that all necessary mitigations are put in place pending final resolution
- To develop, validate and implement product enhancements that improve the reliability, availability and safety of their systems and equipment
- To produce clear and concise technical documentation in the form of specifications, test procedures, modification instructions, maintenance and safety instructions and technical reports
- To be responsible for and control the technical documentation associated with systems and equipment in conformance with Company processes, procedures and systems
- To provide continued assurance of the compliance of systems and equipment to mandatory standards and legislative requirements
- To work with others to enhance the effectiveness of maintenance processes, including the revision of Work Instructions where applicable
- To monitor the life cycle cost of maintaining the systems and propose changes to design and/or maintenance processes to maintain and improve the projected costs during the life of the project
- To undertake product and process audits as required to ensure the integrity of the fleet and maintenance processes
- To monitor obsolescence of component parts and propose technical solutions to overcome problems identified
- To manage the configuration of key components fitted on the trains
- To support the Engineering Systems Manager in liaising with customer organisations
POST HOLDER REQUIREMENTS
Essential
- Mechanical Engineering degree or equivalent
- Knowledge of and ability to work to relevant specifications and standards
- Ability to understand and produce clear technical documentation
- Proficient in the use of MS Office software
- Ability to develop ideas into solutions
- Consistently analyses and compares methods of working with a view to achieving best practice
Desirable
- Previous experience in a relevant railway related engineering role
- Awareness of quality and safety management processes
- Contributes to workload planning and drives to meet planned objectives
- Able to understand business priorities
- Produces well-reasoned arguments that are presented with conviction to achieve desired outcome
- Can communicate effectively with staff at all levels within the organization
