Job Overview:
The role is for a senior Mechanical Engineer position within the Overhaul team, providing specialist technical knowledge, within the Rolling Stock project teams, with the primary objective of delivering safe, compliant, efficient, economic and assured engineering solutions. The role will report to the Overhaul team lead to ensure the timely delivery of the teams engineering output.
The role is office based in central London with a requirement to work on-site as the job requires and may require travel both within the UK and abroad to support project delivery.
Skills
• Ability to lead individuals within a team and co-ordinate engineering resource.
• Ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing, with people at all levels across the organisation and externally.
• Ability to analyse complex data, draw conclusions, produce reports and make recommendations to senior management.
• Ability to build effective working relationships, with people at all levels across the organisation and externally and to influence outcomes.
• Ability to use initiative and good judgement when responding to emerging situations, deciding and agreeing appropriate actions with Overhaul team lead and project management.
Knowledge:
• Mechanical Engineering Degree or equivalent.
• Chartered Engineer or equivalent.
• Thorough understanding of mechanical engineering principles.
• Knowledge of relevant standards, safety legislation and operating rules and regulations.
• Knowledge of inter-dependencies between relevant assets and the application of systems engineering.
• Knowledge of maintenance techniques and good industry practice.
• Awareness of risk management principles.
• Awareness of project Lifecyle principles and processes, ideally TfL Pathway.
• Awareness of contractual arrangements
Experience:
• Experience of railway engineering or similar operationally complex and safety conscious environment.
• Experience of rolling stock or equipment overhaul.
• Experience of mechanical and maintenance engineering, working at a senior level within an engineering team, under engineering governance and providing technical sign-off.
• Experience of technical document generation and review e.g. work instructions, bills of materials and specifications.
• Experience of conducting condition assessments and trialling procedures.
• Experience of building relationships with, and influencing, a range of people at all levels within and outside the organisation.
• A proven record of successful delivery of tasks/projects.
