Associate Director - Bridges & Structures Sector in Croydon, S.E. London, United Kingdom

In this role you will have the opportunity to steer your career and become an industry name in the sector. You will be operating at a senior level within AECOM and with our client base, focusing on the commercial viability, risk and profitability. An internal promotion has created this role, so we are seeking an Associate Director with experience in the Bridges sector which should include design, inspection, assessment, and refurbishment schemes, to join our busy and expanding experienced Croydon Bridges team.

Our team of around 90 engineers will allow you to demonstrate your team leadership and advance your career both technically and in project management. The environment we offer will allow you to thrive in our dynamic structures team.

Current projects include a major UK 5-year rail network infrastructure framework assessment contract. In addition to the significant long-term commissions on bridge assessment and inspection, principally in the rail environment, our initial assessment often leads to the requirement for the design of the refurbishment, strengthening or replacement. We also carry out design, inspection and assessment work for local authorities and design of new and refurbished bridge schemes working with framework contractors.

As an Associate Director you will have the following daily responsibilities:

  • Undertake and project manage rail and/or road bridge and associated structures engineering schemes from inspection and assessment, feasibility through to detailed design.

  • Take responsibility for the contribution of Graduate Engineers and Technicians as appropriate.

  • Responsible for production through to client sign-off of Technical Approval documentation.

  • Hands-on technical design of road and/or rail structures.

  • Hands-on assessment of road and/or rail structures.

  • Structural inspections and reporting.

  • Excellent technical and communication skills both verbal and written.

  • Client liaison.

  • Project Management including program and resource monitoring, quality control, technical management and delivery.

  • Production of tenders including quality documentation and costings.

  • Project Management including programme and resource monitoring, quality control, technical management and delivery.

  • Mentoring graduate engineers in their progress to Chartership.

Minimum Requirements

You should have a good blend of the following:

  • You will have proven design and project management experience delivering to quality, time, and budget.

  • Significant experience of leading project teams (including high-level technical skills), including inspection

and assessment and design of bridges either as standalone schemes or as part of multi-disciplinary

projects.

  • Chartered Engineer with ICE or IStructE.

  • Significant experience with bridge and related structural inspection assessment and design schemes.

  • Proven design and project management experience delivering to quality, time and budget.

  • Experience in road and/or rail projects.

  • Experience in working as part of a multi-disciplinary team.

  • Experience of Eurocodes, British Standards and assessment codes.

  • Previous exposure with clients of both national and local authorities, together with major contractors.

  • Ability to manage staff and project Health and Safety responsibilities including compliance with CDM

legislation.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Ideally educated to MSc level or equivalent.

  • Degree educated or equivalent in a relevant subject such as Bridge, Civil or Structural Engineering.

  • You will have a current clean driving license and be willing to travel throughout the UK to visit sites.
