**PAYING UP TO £500 A DAY**
We have a short-term requirement for an experienced civil engineering estimator with familiarity with bulk earthworks and tunnelling projects to provide key support to the cost estimating team engaged upon developing the estimate for a major Rail project. Based in London or Birmingham, the role would involve reviewing, evolving and validating cost estimates and undertaking option comparisons to a high level of integrity for key elements of the proposed line. You would need a background in civils estimating with good experience of tunnelling projects (including EPB driven tunnels), be able to use the Candy estimating system and have strong analytical and communications skills. Whilst the initial requirement is short term, a longer term role might emerge for the right individual.
Essential
- Demonstrable experience in civils estimating including a significant amount of tunnelling schemes some of which need to be bored tunnels
- High proficiency in identifying, assessing and evaluating risks in civils and particularly tunnelling projects
- Experience of assessing and pricing utilities diversions
- A strong analytical approach
- An ability to communicate results of options appraisal and sifts clearly and concisely
- Proven ability to use CCS Candy software to produce estimates
- IT proficient with a high level of proficiency in Excel
- Educated to degree level with a relevant degree in engineering or surveying
Desirable
- Experience of undertaking estimating and cost planning for rail projects
- Familiarity with proprietary estimating systems especially Cost OS
- Proficient in use and application of cost modelling and benchmarking techniques
- Membership of a relevant professional institution
Responsibilities
- Production of accurate and comprehensive estimates for tunnelling schemes from outline designs within challenging timescales
- Production of accurate and comprehensive estimates for earthworks and structures from outline designs within challenging timescales
- Review, validation and development of existing estimates
- Instigate and lead risk reviews and assessments of different design options
- Report on the findings of cost estimate comparisons and risk assessments
- Contribute actively to workshops designed to appraise options and develop risk assessments
- Review and capture emerging requirements e.g. environmental remediation measures in order to incorporate of cost and risk analyses
- Undertake benchmarking of estimates
