Purpose of the role
Perform all work within the CEFA contract, maximising efficiency, effectiveness and new technology to ensure compliance with all relevant standards. All duties must be delivered safely and in accordance with the requirements of the client.
What will this role involve?
• Carry out site examination of structures using handheld technology to determine structural condition as allocated within the Alarm or other agreed systems and within defined timescales.
• Where qualified, carry out specialist site examinations using roped access and confined space techniques.
• Compile and submit condition reports using the Alarm electronic system or other agreed process and submit for reviewing by the Examining Engineers team.
• Perform special examinations as directed including assistance with monitoring schemes for sensitive structures.
• Undertake reconnaissance visits.
• Provide assistance with specialist examinations undertaken by the Examining Engineers team, including unique structures and tunnel examinations.
• Undertake on-call duties usually on a 1 in 4 frequency, in support of rapid response, including bridge strike.
• Assist in provision of safety critical site support duties as required (COSS, ES SWL1 and 2).
• Co-operate with quality, safety and environmental objectives and contribute, where appropriate, to continual improvement initiatives.

What are we looking for?
Essential Skills, Qualifications and Training:
• GCSE pass in English Language
• C&G / NVQ Level 3 in any relevant building construction trade (additional relevant experience may be considered in lieu on an individual basis).
• STE 4/ SCMI competent
• IWA
• BSE
• IT Literate with minimum word processing and drawing application
• Full driving licence
Desirable Skills, Qualifications and Training:
• HNC level qualification / Technician Engineer (ICE)
• Previous experience in the rail industry and knowledge of railway practice.
• COSS

Specific Safety Responsibilities
• A good knowledge of Health and Safety and environmental issues and knowledge of current legislation
• Responsible for reporting Close Calls to ensure continuous improvement and the prevention of unnecessary accidents.
• Act in a manner that protects the health, welfare, and safety of yourself and others.
• Carry out site safety inspections
• Carry out supplier and subcontract audits
• Deputise for line manager
• Participate in regular team and safety meetings
• Observe sentinel scheme rules and Lifesaving rules
Personal Safety Equipment:
• Safety helmet, safety footwear and high visibility clothing to Network Rail standard L2/OHS/021
• Other relevant personal protective equipment to be made available to post holder as & when identified by risk assessment (e.g. eye protection, gloves, safety harness)
