Project information;

CLIP (Central Line Improvement Programme)

CLIP is a major project based package of work on the 92TS fleet running on the Central Line. The fleet consists of eighty five, 8 car trains. In addition a lesser package of work will be carried out on the Waterloo & City Line 92TS.

Purpose

The 92TS fleet was built in the early/mid 90's, so are at a stage in there design life where they need a package of major improvements carried out to maintain and enhance reliability and aid efficiency.

In addition Rail Vehicle Accessibility Regulations (RVAR), require a number of improvements to aid passengers with disabilities to travel on the trains.

Project duration and delivery

Prototype installation has commenced on the first 2 trains. Train 3 will be the first production train arriving at TMU, Acton workshops in late 2019. The quantity of trains and carriages in work will build-up over a period of time, with project completion expected by late 2023.

Scope of Works

• Replacement of DC Traction system with an AC traction system. This involves removal and replacement of underside DC Chopper Case, and DC motors housed in train bogies - we call them Trucks.
• Removal of Data Transmission System (DTS) and associated parts, with a more modern maintainable system. This is like the train equivalent of an engine management system on modern cars.
• Floor corrosion repairs.
• Saloon lighting upgraded to LED lighting.
• CCTV installation.
• Body end replacement.
• Upgrade to comply with RVAR:
• New lino flooring
• Space for wheel chairs
• Passenger information Displays (PIS) within Saloon. Showing train destinations, next station, general announcements etc.
• Likelihood of other work packages being tagged-on..
