Ford & Stanley - The Rail Recruitment Experts have the pleasure of supporting one of the UK's most reputable freight operators to recruit an experienced Locomotive Planner.
The Opportunity
Based within the Fleet Resourcing & Planning function, you will be assisting the safe and effective planning of the company's fleet of locomotives. It is your responsibility to manage customer expectations, provide detailed documentation and work closely with engineering, operations, commercial and finance departments to maximise revenue and profitability.

Location (s): Rugby
Role and Responsibilities:
- Production of long term, weekly and daily locomotive plans, dealing with short term operational changes.
- Ensure locomotives are in place to meet weekly maintenance requirements.
- Production of weekly fuel plans and orders.
- Daily monitoring of fuel stock levels and consumption.
- Production of weekly locomotive asset utilization data, highlighting cancellations, failures, light engine moves, DIT moves and maintenance events.
- Production of weekly locomotive and Wagon fleet availability.
- Monitoring of external locomotive resource hires in and out.
- Attend daily morning engineering and freight conferences.
- As you will expect the organisation may change from time to time and you will be expected to meet the operational requirements.
- Any other reasonable duties as required from time to time.
The Candidate
The ideal individual will be self-motivated and proactive, you will need to hit the ground running as the day-to-day operations of the fleet is past paced and continuous. It is imperative that you can maintain good relationships with the customer, whilst working quickly and effectively within a team.
Naturally, you will be highly organised, can use your initiative in challenging situations and have a drive and enthusiasm to elevate your career to the next level.
Essentials
- Microsoft Excel, Word & PowerPoint Skills - Teams and PowerBI desirable.
- Rail background
- Data Visualization Skills.
- Experience of producing detailed reports and data.
- Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal.
- Knowledge of Locomotive and Wagon types.
- Good geographical knowledge of the railway network and infrastructure.
- Be proactive and able to show initiative with a positive approach to work.
- Ability to work on multiple projects.
