HV Cable Jointer
Location: Worthing, West Sussex
Purpose of Job:
To undertake all works within their capabilities, training and/or experience.
To operate and safely use plant and equipment within their competencies and that they hold the required license or cards for.
Principle Accountabilities:
Carry out the work to the required standards of workmanship, including standards expected by the Company, to industry best practice, to the Companies documented Standards and Specifications, as directed by the Company’s management.
Undertake all work in-accordance with the documented safe systems of work, and as directed by the Company’s management.
Undertake all work in timely manner.
Provide input and feedback to the Company on quality, safety and environmental issues and areas for improvement, including the reporting of unsafe acts or omissions, near misses and accidents etc.
Detailed Responsibilities:
- Cable jointing work in connection with the construction, reinforcement, alteration, replacement and repair of electricity distribution network assets up to 33kV.
- Assess site risks and remove / minimise / avoid those risks.
- Record asset routes, joint positions/plant details etc.
- Assess the potential impact of work activities to customers and minimise negative impact activities
- Contribute to and have a full understanding of the onsite safety documentation. (Risk Assessment, Test Records, Safety Documentation)
- Liaise with the management and others to provide input and gain information during all stages of the works,
- Work in-accordance with, and due diligence of all prescribed and issued Standards, drawings and other documentation,
- Produce records at each stage of the works in-accordance with all prescribed and issued Standards and other documentation,
- Use all plant and equipment in a safe manner and in-accordance with the manufacturer’s instructions, using guards and other protective devices fitted,
- Use and care for all issued plant and equipment and report defects immediately, ensuring the plant and equipment cannot be used by other un-intentionally,
- Use and care for all personal protective equipment and clothing free issued by the Company, and request replacements on loss or wear,
- Provide feedback to the Company to ensure all commercial matters relating to the works are captured,
- Comply with the Company’s Policies and procedures, specifically accident, incident, and near miss reporting, drugs and alcohol abuse, refusal to work on the grounds of H&S, and working in-accordance to the restrictions placed on working hours and shift patterns etc,
- Work the contracted number of hours each week,
- Attend all training and assessments required by the Company in-connection with your duties.
In addition, the role will include supporting the APS Management team. This includes liaison with customers, network operations, planning and supervision of field staff and management of contractors
Required Experience, Knowledge, Qualifications and Training:
Trained, experienced, and qualified in XLPE transition joints and terminations using various products. PILC to XLPE. Jointing experience. Sheath testing and pressure testing desirable but not necessary. an aptitude and willingness to progress.
An appreciation of the London Underground and Network Rail Standards would be desirable, but not essential.
