Head of EHS in Ashby de la Zouch, GB-GBN, United Kingdom
Reporting to the Technology Director, the Head of Environment, Health and Safety & Sustainability (EHS&S) shall lead the EHS & S programmes for the company, including the standardisation and continuous improvement of the EHS&S Management Systems and development and implementation of a company Sustainability Strategy and Plan. The Regional EHS Managers and Sustainability Manager report into the Head of EHS&S, responsible for servicing the Delivery Regions and their projects and leading the delivery of the Sustainability Plan for the business.
What are my responsibilities?
- Lead, develop and motivate a high performing functional team of EHS&S professionals providing exemplary service to the Delivery and Functional teams throughout the business
- Provide professional support and advise to the SRA Executive on all aspects of EHS & S.
- Provide expert leadership in engaging and working with client, regulatory and other third party stakeholders on all EHS & S matters
- Supporting the Executive in developing and implementing the Safety Strategy and Safety Leadership programme across the business, including a Behavioural Safety programme.
- Maintaining and improving the EHS &S sections of the Business Management System (BMS), including compliance to 3rd party certifications, including ISO 14001 and OHSAS18001, Achilles Link-up, Network Rail Principal Contractors License, Siemens Mobility Standards and Procedures besides IRIS certification
- Support and contribute to the wider Siemens EHS&S community including Siemens UK Plc, Siemens Mobility UK and Siemens Rail Automation.
- Work with the business function Heads to develop, implement, maintain and continuously improve a Sustainability Strategy and Plan for the business
- Maintaining and delivering the internal EHS and S audit program for the company
- Continuous development of reporting metrics, targets and KPIs, both leading and lagging, for management review and response
- Establishing and managing the departmental budget
- Performing duties as directed by the Executive team
What do I need to qualify for this job?
- Chartered Safety professional with relevant Degree or equivalent
- Active Member of a professional body (e.g. IOSH, NEBOSH etc ) including maintenance of CPD records (essential)
- Excellent ability to lead and communicate change at all levels (essential)
- Practical experience in leading ISO 14001 and OHSAS18001 Management System development and implementation (essential)
- Experience of working in a functional leader role and managing high performing teams to deliver continuous improvement (essential)
- Excellent understanding, experience and knowledge of delivering in a safety critical industry, particularly in the railway environment desirable
- Knowledge and experience of project management, engineering and delivery processes applicable to the railway and construction industries
- Strong understanding and experience of risk management at all levels
- Excellent PC skills with ability to deliver high quality EHS document deliverables to short-time scales (essential)
- Good understanding of process capability, metrics and improvement methodology and tools (essential)
- Certified Lead Auditor with experience undertaking internal and external audits against Management System & contract requirements
