Due to increased workload and project demand, our client is looking to bring on a Junior or Trainee Planner into the team;

The junior planner should have basic skills in the use of Primavera and ability to learn and gain more skills to become competent user of Primavera.

Ability to translate primavera programmes into other media for clear communication of the project deliverables e.g. PowerPoint phasing charts, excel graphical representation. Knowledge of MS project is also of benefit for interpreting others programmes produced with this software.

The junior planner will be expected to be conversant in the detailed programme deliverables and have the ability to assist planner / senior planner in managing the programme with contingency planning e.g. proactively manage deliverables not wait until the deliverables late

The junior planner will be learning to understand the full Network Rail GRIP process and project development at GRIP 2 through to Construction and Handback in GRIP 6, 7 & 8

The junior planner will be trained to create a new programme from drawings and within the boundaries of the contract documentation requirements/constraints i.e, contract completion/handover, entry into service dates, specified WBS structure in relation to GRIP, use of possession calendars, and other access limitations which may be key to the logic sequence.

The junior planner will be learning to analyse progress updates and assess impact(s). With the ability logically review construction sequences e.g. able to spot logic links that can be adjusted to the present sequences of work but understand the importance of recording such changes.

The junior planner must talk to the design & construction teams and lead them through the client’s project deliverables

Appreciation of the importance of Key Milestones.

Learning to get the ability & understanding of drawings and ability to develop these into a programme with the project team. Civils and/or Rail experience is an advantage

The Junior / Trainee planner should look to gain possession planning experience by talking and assisting the possession planning team etc. For example learn to understand the purpose of:

1. PPS (Section 5 etc.)
2. Sectional Appendix
3. Quail Maps / 5 Mile Plans

The Junior and Trainee planner should understand the Planners Job Description and develop their 1, 3 & 5 years plan to show how they wish to progress their career
