Working as part of the SB Rail Joint Venture partnership since 2004 Swietelsky have developed and purchased the most capable and diversified fleet of on-track machines in the country and have been responsible for introducing a number of ‘first of type’ equipment advancements.
Swietelsky provide the latest on-track technologies to improve safety, reliability and sustainability of mechanised railway engineering works. We now have a fantastic opportunity within the company for the position of Crane Fitter Operator within our Kirow Crane Department. The cranes are used by various railway clients on a nationwide basis which will require the successful candidate to demonstrate a willingness to lodge and travel when required. The home reporting location and administration hub for the crane department is based at our depot at Guide Bridge, Manchester. The successful candidate for the role of Crane Fitter Operator will be highly motivated. You will ideally have completed a time served engineering apprenticeship or equivalent, but will definitely have experience of maintaining, servicing and repairing Kirow Rail Cranes or a background in rolling stock engineering with a bias towards 24v electrical fault diagnosis and repairs being preferred but not essential. Experience of crane operations would be an advantage however full training will be given.
The successful candidate will be required to demonstrate an understanding of the criteria for current Railway Standards and VMI documentation along with a desire to display excellent Health and Safety practices at all times.
Essential qualities for the successful candidate include:
• An understanding of mechanical and electrical diagrams and drawings.
• Experience of diesel/hydraulic/electrical plant maintenance, repair and servicing is essential along with methodical attitude towards completing, updating and storing associated certificates and records.
• Undertake pre-planned maintenance of Kirow Rail Crane fleet, as required by maintenance periodicity and applicable maintenance schedules.
• Preferred experience of Kirow Rail Cranes an advantage but not essential.
• Ability to pass Personal Track Safety (PTS) and the entrance medical, including substance testing and colour blindness, is essential.
• Good interpersonal skills.
• Ability to undertake fault finding and effect repairs in the field.
• Operate Kirow Rail Crane for which certificate of competency has been obtained (after training if required).
• Comply with all Rules and Regulations and observe all local conditions of the Railway.
• Full UK Driver’s license.
• Work away from home to meet contractual and training requirements as required.
• Knowledge of Safety Critical work regulations.
