We are currently searching for a Systems Specialist covering the operational requirements for HS2 in Birmingham. As the operations specialist, you will be responsible for the development and mobilisation periods of the programme.
Role:
- You will assist the Head of operations in providing the strategic direction for operational systems that support the operational concept
- Define the operational state of the railway and ensure that this is reflected through the delivery programme.
- Undertake the operational organisation ready to undertake the maintenance, renewals and operation of the railway, stations and depot assets in a safe, efficient manner providing a high level of performance and customer experience
- Develop the Blueprint for the Programme’s operational stage(s) – “the end state” - in order to assure delivery of the Programme’s Goals and Strategic Objectives.
- Develop the HS2 Rolling Stock and Depots Strategy and, once approved, manage the procurement and delivery into service of the HS2 Rolling Stock and Depots.
- Plan for and mobilise the Operating businesses for the operational stage(s) - HS2 Infrastructure Manager; Train and Station Operations – as Proxy Operator until such time as the DfT has put in place the initial Train and Station Operators; and Rolling Stock Owner
- Lead the review of current system requirements within HS2 that are not part of the railway system procurement packages

- Act as the point of contact and subject matter expert for operations to influence technical development of system design principles, specifications and requirements in order to assure optimisation of the capability of the operating systems in order to deliver the HS2 business case.
- Lead research within other industries to ensure that best practice is identified, and requirements are provided for system design parameters
- Liaise with external stakeholders influencing the development of systems and processes to optimise the operational interfaces with the conventional rail network and West Coast Partner, in order to safeguard HS2 operations and ensure system integration is considered.
- Lead the review of railway systems, stations and rolling stock requirements that have a direct influence on operational systems, such as stock and crew and ticketing.
- Define what operational systems are required and how they are interfaced within the overall railway system
- Lead the development of business cases to support operational system definition and procurement including business need and benefiT
- Experience in developing requirements for complex systems
- Experienced in system design and the linkages between operational systems and the context they are used within
- Experience of identifying and managing risk
- Current operational business systems within the railway industry

This position has the option of being based in London or Birmingham
