Paint Prepper
Location: Cardiff, Wales
The Paint Prepper is responsible for preparing all assigned vehicles for the refinishing and reassembly processes. You will be involved in a variety of processes, including preparation and paint work of components and rail vehicles, all within the Paint Facility and on the Production Line as required.
Key Accountabilities
- Safety - Support the implementation of the Pullman Rail Limited Safety, Health, Environment and Quality (SHEQ) strategy, associated actions and resulting initiatives, to deliver continuous improvement in all areas.

- Key Tasks
- Thoroughly reviews each repair order prior to beginning work on vehicle
- Completes all paint preparation processes for vehicles according to factory specifications and policies
- To prime, edge or jam replacement parts
- to properly sand and prep for paint, new parts and blend panels
- To properly sand and featheredge surface for primer
- To properly block panels for refinishing
- To mask and spray the correct amount and coats of primer
- Able to mask all panels and cover car to minimise tapelines and overspray on the vehicle
- Contributes to maintaining acceptable cost per paint labour hour
- Knows status of assigned vehicles and helps problem solve on getting and keeping all vehicles on schedule on-time delivery
- Consistently utilises all required safe equipment and follows proper refinishing procedures in compliance with health and safety guidelines
- Adheres to all requirements hazardous waste disposal
- Follow vendors procedures to maintain all tools and requirement, including maintenance of paint booth and prep booth filters
- Maintain a clean and organised work space
- Performs other duties assigned by management
- Keep up to date with developments within the Company and other sector wide practices,
- that influence the day to day activities within the role, ensuring compliance with relevant
- legislation and any other relevant internal/external factors e.g. Company policies and procedures, health and safety, quality standards.

- the Company, its dealings, transactions, and all other information relating to clients/ customers, staff etc.

- Ability to sit or stand for prolonged periods of time
- Ability to perform repetitive tasks; manual dexterity
- Vision abilities required include close, distance, and depth perception
- Periodic lifting and carrying objects
- Reaching above and below shoulder level
- Extended periods of kneeling, bending, squatting, and stooping to complete or inspect repairs
- Manual dexterity and eye-hand coordination
- May be exposed to fumes, chemicals, high level of dust and noise in repair centre
- MUST be able to wear protective equipment, including respirator
- Person Specification
- Effective communication (written or verbal) and interpersonal skills required
- Ability to work in a high performance, fast-paced team environment
- Experience working in a professional paint or body shop
- Paint equipment/product knowledge and ability to use polisher and DA and compounds, etc.
- Possess beginner to standard level of paint prep/ polish tools
- Ability to adapt to and work effectively within a constantly changing environment
- Excellent problem solving skills required
