Principal Ecologist
Birmingham / Manchester / Leeds
We are working with a major civil engineering consultancy with a well-established global presence, and a UK presence of around 400 staff, who are searching for a Principal Ecologist to join one of their Midlands or Northern offices on a full time, permanent basis. The position is available in the Birmingham / Manchester / Leeds regions.
In the position, you will be working as part of the Environmental and Ecology team, on some of the UKs largest transport projects in the rail and highways sectors. With the ever-increasing requirements to pay more attention to protecting our environment, this position is a key vacancy for the client.
The core responsibilities of the position include:
- Coordinate data sets and site surveys, organising specialist ecological surveys when required
- Liaise and communicate with internal and external multidisciplinary teams, as well as provide outwards facing client-facing capabilities with statutory and non-statutory bodies
- Advise on commercial aspects, fee estimates, forecasting, early warning notifications
- Undertake standardised habitat survey methodologies, Habitat creation, ecological management plans, environmental condition assessments
- Constantly improve and find new ways to create more efficient ecological surveying and reporting procedures to ensure effective information transfer across schemes and disciplines
- Advise internal and external colleagues on ecological matters and subjects of concern
- Lead site walkovers and surveys
- Provide your own reports, as well as review the reports of less experienced ecologists on site reports and surveys
- Project manage ecological mitigation design services
- Undertake ecological assessments as part of Environmental Impact Assessments (EIAs)
- Apply for licenses and consents associated with planning commitments
- Deliver ecological workshops
- Advice sub-contractors and stakeholders on ecologically sensitive works
- Promote Health and Safety within the business
- Ensure compliance with UK and European Environmental and Wildlife laws
- Support the Environmental Business Lead across their projects
