What is the purpose of this role?

To manage and deliver allocated, complex, multi disciplinary contracts safely, in accordance with legislation and Amey procedures, to contract specification and programme, while building and sustaining long-term customer relationships in accordance with the project relationship matrix.

What will this role involve?

  • To promote safe working practices, ensure full implementation and compliance with safety responsibility statement below
  • To deliver the Amey Essentials
  • Effectively lead and line manage project teams, including training, development and performance management
  • Ensure that allocated contracts are effectively planned and progress reviewed on a weekly basis
  • Timely submission of weekly PAPM/CAPMs and period end Balanced Scorecard reports to an agreed format (to include the Amey Essentials KPIs)
  • To support the tender processes and strategy as required
  • Establish and manage a clear communication plan for Client and suppliers as appropriate meeting Amey Essential KPIs
  • To ensure that Client and key Stakeholders aspirations are fully understood and incorporated into the delivery plan as appropriate
  • Lead and manage the project team(s)
  • Define project specific roles and responsibilities for project team(s), including direct and indirect reports
  • Carry out performance reviews for direct reports, administering poor performance, attendance management and disciplinary procedures as applicable
  • Undertake PDRs and staff development of direct reports
  • The role is one of leadership and management and based in an office / site office environment
  • It is a requirement of the role to attend site on a regular basis (including night time)
  • Safety Responsibility Statement
  • Overall HSQE project accountability for compliance with statutory legislation, Network Rail Group and Company Standards, and Amey management systems, processes and procedures. These include, but are not limited to, the following: Accountable for ensuring that all planned Safety Inspections and Visible Felt Leadership tours are completed in accordance with the approved programme, and that identified actions are closed out in a timely manner
  • Accountable for ensuring the Safety, Quality, Environmental and Construction Phase Plans, work package plans and task briefs, are accurately produced, approved and implemented effectively for allocated contracts
  • Ensure that adequate and site access and welfare facilities are provided for all work activities
  • Participate in regular monthly safety meeting with Line Manager
  • Hold monthly safety meeting with direct reports to include monthly cascade safety brief
  • Ensure that accident / incident reporting and investigations are undertaken in a timely manner as instructed and in accordance with the safety management system, and that issues arising are addressed in a timely manner
  • Ensure that all staff are briefed on the essential contents of the management safety system, and records are kept accordingly Ensure that stipulated PPE is worn by all staff in compliance with mandated procedures and legislation Identify specific training needs for individuals (including yourself) so as to ensure staff competency for the allocated tasks
  • Ensure that mandatory training and competency certification for all staff are valid and copies available
  • Ensure that statutory safety and relevant company safety documents are displayed in site cabins and office
  • Ensure Ground disturbance procedure is briefed; records kept and strictly adhered to Investigate all reportable accidents, incidents, thefts and site losses and provide reports within 48 hours to the Line Manager
  • Maintain site records and index of COSHH assessments for all substances
  • Co-ordinate site lay-out with due regard for site security Personal Safety Equipment Amey: Company ID Sentinel Card, Safety Helmet, Personal Headlamp, Safety Boots, Reflective Jacket / clothing Gloves Ear, eye or respiratory protection will only be issued when required and then only after a full briefing as to how to use the equipment properly

What are we looking for?

  • Min HNC / HND in Engineering (or a similar approved qualification)
  • Must be able to drive
  • Degree in Engineering (or similar qualification at this level) - desirable
  • Computer literacy – Microsoft Excel, Word, PowerPoint and Outlook
  • Significant project management experience successfully delivering multi-discipline projects (preferably) within the railway infrastructure with responsibility for P&L at project level
  • Commercially experienced and competent
  • Skilled at customer and supply chain management in challenging environments Understanding of the Railway Operating Environment
  • The ability to manage and lead a team in the successful delivery of multi-disciplinary projects
  • Strong interpersonal skills to influence and manage all stakeholders PTS /IWA
  • Emergency First Aid at work IOSH
  • Managing Safely COSHH Project Induction
  • Satisfy requirements of PTS medical PTS
  • Health and Safety Training (IOSH)
  • Knowledge of Risk Assessment techniques
  • Understanding of Railway planning systems – desirable
  • IWA/COSS – desirable
  • Environmental awareness for managers
