Rail Technical Director - South America

EWI have an exciting opportunity for an experienced Technical Director with expertise in systems engineering and systems safety for rail projects to lead initiatives in South America. As a key member of the leadership team, you will provide strategic direction, technical oversight, and ensure the successful implementation of systems for rail projects while prioritising safety and quality.

Responsibilities:

• Provide strategic leadership and technical guidance for systems engineering aspects of rail projects throughout South America, ensuring alignment with company objectives and client expectations.
• Collaborate with project managers, engineers, and stakeholders to define project objectives, deliverables, and timelines related to systems engineering.

• Oversee the systems engineering lifecycle for rail projects, including requirements analysis, system architecture design, integration, testing, and validation.
• Ensure compliance with industry standards, regulations, and systems safety requirements throughout the systems engineering process.
• Review project plans, specifications, and technical documents related to systems engineering to ensure accuracy, feasibility, and adherence to safety protocols.

• Lead the implementation of systems safety processes and procedures for rail projects, including hazard analysis, risk assessment, and safety certification.
• Collaborate with safety engineering teams to identify and mitigate safety risks associated with rail systems and ensure compliance with safety standards and regulations.

• Establish and enforce quality assurance processes to ensure the delivery of high-quality rail infrastructure projects, with a focus on safety, reliability, and performance of systems.
• Conduct regular inspections and audits to verify compliance with technical specifications, safety standards, and quality requirements related to systems engineering.

• Build and maintain strong relationships with clients, consultants, contractors, and regulatory authorities, serving as a technical liaison and addressing concerns effectively.
• Facilitate clear and transparent communication between internal teams and external stakeholders, fostering collaboration and alignment on systems engineering aspects of rail projects.

Qualifications:

• Bachelor's or Master's degree in Engineering or related field.
• Minimum of 15 years of experience in systems engineering for rail projects, with a focus on technical leadership and project management.
• Fluent in Portuguese and proficiency in English; additional languages are a plus.
• Extensive experience in systems safety management for rail projects, including hazard analysis, risk assessment, and safety certification.
• Strong technical expertise in systems engineering lifecycle, including requirements analysis, system architecture design, integration, testing, and validation.
• Knowledge of industry standards, regulations, and best practices related to rail infrastructure and systems safety.
• Excellent leadership, communication, and interpersonal skills, with the ability to lead multidisciplinary teams and collaborate effectively with stakeholders.
• Experience working in South America or with South American clients preferred.
