Very Light Rail (VLR) is a new form of low-cost public transport that can be used to supplement existing rail-based systems, and the VLR sector offers a significant opportunity for UK companies to develop new solutions leading to the growth of a new industry supplying UK and international rail schemes. It will also provide significant supply opportunities for Black Country based manufacturing businesses.

The innovation centre, due for completion 2022, provides a hub for UK academic and commercial businesses to collaborate and develop new Very Light Rail solutions of the future.

The driving force behind the Centre is the Black Country Innovative Manufacturing Organisation (BCIMO) who will oversee the build, launch and operation of state of-the-art facilities, including a single test track from Castle Hill to Cinder Bank. This track facility will be used for prototype trials, providing a unique opportunity to test and develop products and ideas including technology transferred from other sectors, in a safe and controlled way.

The next stage in this exciting development is to bring the rail test track facility online early in 2021. To help bring this dream to reality, we now wish to recruit a Rail Test Facility Supervisor.

This new position will report to the BCIMO Chief Executive Officer and in summary you will be responsible for:

• Inspection, maintenance and repair of the track facility
• Safe and efficient operation of the facility

To be considered for the Test Facility Supervisor role you must:

• Be qualified to at least HND/BTEC or equivalent in mechanical, electrical or control engineering
• Have significant experience in rail operations/maintenance including infrastructure and rolling stock
• Have previous experience of working in a test, development or product validation environment
• Have a background in rail depot or maintenance, repair and overhaul (MRO) environment
• Be able to work flexible hours when required to achieve deadlines.
• Possess effective IT skills to create and maintain records and reports to a professional standard.
• Have experience of working in a highly safety compliant environment

Additionally, we are interested in hearing from applicants:

• With membership of a professional body such as MIRO or MIPWI
• Trained and experienced in First Aid
• With previous working knowledge of safety management systems in rail.
• With effective workshop team management skills
• With the ability to grow and develop a skilled team
