Structures Examiner

About the role

Undertake examinations of structures and assist other staff as required in all matters of examinations and reporting required for the assessment of structures. Assist in planning of possessions and in compiling risk assessments prior to examinations.

What you'll be doing

• Assist in the compliance with Health and Safety at Work Act, all other relevant health and safety and environmental regulations, Fire Regulations and COSHH requirements. Ensure that an up-to-date knowledge of all safety legislation is maintained
• Assist with other site activities as delegated.
• Undertake confined spaces, aerial platform and highway works as required.
• Ensure that full compliance with Network Rail standards for the examination of structures is achieved for both physical examinations and subsequent examination reporting.
• Documents and reports are produced to the required standard first time and within time scales set.
• To actively develop working methods to improve the quality and quantity of the output.
• Accurate packages with minimum of reworking
• Accurate and complete records of progress to assigned programme
• Successful audits passed

Who we're looking for?

Essential

• In depth knowledge of structure types, common failure modes, the recognition of structural defects and the deterioration of structural elements.
• Experience in an engineering discipline.
• 5 years working in a Civil engineering, bridge or structures environment.
• IT proficient
• Experience and proven ability in hazard identification, risk assessment and work planning
• Knowledge of safety legislation
• Ability to manage own programme to set timescales

Desirable

• Confined Space Trained (Escape Sets)
• First Aid at Work
• New Roads and Street Works Act (signing, watching and guarding)
• MEWP operation
