Our client has developed a respected reputation in the Railway industry from their success in delivering to their customers. They now have opportunities for a number of Technical Authors / Operational Industrial Specialists to join their ranks to bolster the existing team.
The purpose of the role is to author Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) and implement these for use by Technicians from existing VMI (Vehicle Maintenance instructions) and associated procedures and technical documents, working with Technicians and Subject Matter Experts (SMEs) for the development and implementation of SOP covering Rolling Stock activities.
Key Responsibilities
* SOP documentation - Prepare and author of SOP documents from VMIs and existing procedures and practices for the depots, including contributing to SOP content.
* Develop best working practice for the SOP complying with VMIs and where appropriate identify exceptions to the VMIs with supporting reasoning.
* Undertaking observations at the depot including liaising with production line management and technicians, supporting pre-briefings, carrying out observations of work, gathering photos and information for use in the development of SOPs and supporting briefing relating to observation work.
* Support and lead work on progressing SOPs from start to finish on BSC activities. This will include working with Technicians from to gain input and check SOPs to check current methods and trial SOPs.
* Review the methods and where appropriate identify and support improvements in process, method, layout, equipment that can be realistically delivered in the implementation timescale for each SOP.
The Ideal Candidate
* Experience in Technical Authoring in an engineering field requiring document control. Ideally within Rolling Stock, however other Heavy Manufacturing industry experience will also be considered.
* Proven ability to build rapport, understand the needs of, and work closely with existing teams of Technicians for implementation.
* Extensive experience using Microsoft Office (Word, Excel) and other Technical Authoring tools.
* Experience in a mechanical/electrical engineering environment
* Ability to complete study and document work activities to create procedures.
* Knowledge of Health & Safety, manual handling and Control of Substances Hazardous to Health (COSHH)
* Ability to understand and interpret relevant technical publications and engineering drawings.
* Ability to produce detailed complex, analytical technical documents.
