Or client is a main contractor working on one of London's prestigious station redevelopments. They have an opportunity for a Temporary Works Designer to join their team on a permanent basis.
Fundamentally you would be scoping temporary works design packages for external subcontract designers and managing the design process from the initial design brief preparation through to construction on site.
In general terms, the type of TW designs will be backpropping, formwork, falsework, tower crane bases, foundations to site cabins & welfare units, access platforms, lifting equipment, temporary site road, working platforms for tracked plant, control of groundwater, temporary façade retention, scaffolding, supported excavations, etc.
Day to day duties:
Undertake Temporary Works (TW) designs in steel, reinforced concrete, timber, excavation support materials and excavation slope stability etc.
Scoping temporary works design packages for external subcontract designers and managing the design process with the construction team from the initial design brief preparation through to construction on site.
To ensure the TW Management Plan is applied in accordance with the site necessities and to support in the stages of the TW development process. This may include the supervision of the erection, use, maintenance and dismantling of the temporary works, as applicable.
To support technically the site managers and team during the construction process ensuring that the project quality requirements and expectations of the Project are met. This includes comply with planning conditions, any submittals, procedures, British standards or legal specifications.
Point of contact between the Temporary Works Coordinator (TWC) and Site Team and any external Designers (as necessary).
To ensure the temporary works design is implemented in accordance with the drawings and specification (TW Management plan - Design process work flow).
Contribute to the implementation of the organisation's procedure for the control of temporary works on site. (TW Management plan - Construction process work flow).
Provide in-house dedicated support on temporary works designs for the Project. The type of Temporary Works designs will vary to accommodate the requirements of the project. Prepare Approval in Principle for the Concept Design Statements for LUL as necessary.
Undertake site briefings as necessary.
Attend temporary works meetings on site as necessary.
Offer guidance and coaching to junior members of the design and construction team.
Assist with delivering parts of various internal Temporary Works training courses.
Assist in the development and delivery of effective temporary works training material.
Undertake site audits of temporary works against the company procedures and prepare reports.
Assist with continually seeking improvement of our engineering processes and performance.
