Job Purpose
As a Welding Inspector the job holder will be responsible for undertaking inspections before, during and after welding in accordance with BS EN ISO 17637 on safety critical rolling stock vehicles and components. They will be required to investigate and report non-conformance and compile assurance documentation.
At all times they will need to ensure that the requirements of the Workshops BS EN 15085 & ISO 3834 control manual are complied with throughout the repair process.
Key Accountabilities
To complete inspections before, during and after welding according to the inspection and test plan.
To complete any final inspections and testing in accordance with the inspection and test plan.
To carry out non-destructive testing of welds according to the inspection and test plan.
To undertake destructive testing on welder qualification test specimens (Bends EN 5173 and Fractures EN 9017).
To interpret engineering drawings to ensure fabrications are produced in accordance to the drawing, comply to specifications and produce dimensional reports.
Record and report on non-conformances.
Compile quality documentation packs and verify the content is to the required standard.
Conduct internal surveillance audits in accordance with BS EN 15085 & ISO 3834.
At all times ensure that production activities are in accordance with the Workshops Welding Control Manual.

Knowledge
1. Have a level 4 qualification in either Mechanical Engineering or Fabrication & Welding and/or a minimum five years relevant experience in an engineering discipline plus a proven track record in a quality control related role.
2. Welding inspection experience and a minimum qualification to CSWIP 3.1 Welding Inspector.
3. Qualification in at least one of MT, PT, VT in accordance with ISO 9712.
4. Working knowledge of ISO 5817, ISO 10042, ISO 3834 and EN 15085.
5. Previous qualification in accordance with ISO 9606 (MIG/MAG, TIG, MMA) is desirable but not essential.
6. Computer literate and able to use the Microsoft Office software packages (Excel, Word and Access).
Skills
1. Have highly developed written and verbal communication skills coupled with excellent interpersonal / organisational skills.
2. Be self-motivated, numerate, cost conscious and possess a high level of analytical skills.
Experience
Working knowledge of ISO 17637, ISO 5817, ISO 10042, ISO 3834 and EN 15085.
