In addition to maintaining the existing network the Government has recently commenced a major program of rail projects named METRONET with the aim of updating & extending the Perth metropolitan rail network and is looking for experienced rail engineers across a number of disciplines to help deliver these exciting phases of work
We are looking to hear from Senior Overhead Engineers (25kv) interested in emigrating to Australia. This position is responsible for the provision of engineering expertise for the maintenance, design, construction, upgrades and modifications of 25kVAC Overhead Line Equipment.It also reviews the operational performance of all the Overhead Line Equipment system including the planning and scheduling of all maintenance and repairs and provides recommendations to the Principal Electrical Engineer
Core duties and responsibilities
Maintenance and Asset Management
- Monitors to ensure maintenance plans are carried out in a safe, reliable and cost effective manner and resources are available to meet technical requirements.
- Carries out inspections and tests, reviews, investigates, checks and analyses equipment/system failures and incidents, prepares technical reports and assists with development of solutions and improvements as necessary to guide maintenance activities, either individually or as a member of a team.
- Undertakes audits on Overhead Line Equipment (OLE) and related infrastructure for the Public Transport Authority’s (PTA) rail network.
- Plans and monitors maintenance, repairs and construction activities as directed by Principal Electrical Engineer and in conjunction with the Overhead Catenary Superintendent and Supervisors.
- Records and analyses performance and productivity data and provides recommendation to Principal Electrical Engineer for appropriate corrective actions for improvements.
Technical
- Provides engineering expertise for 25kVAC OLE maintenance, design, construction, upgrades and modifications to the existing network.
- Participates in commissioning of new equipment, systems and technology, including testing of OLE network as Test Engineer or as Witnessing Engineer for Contractor’s testing and commissioning.
- Carries out OLE designs to comply with the PTA’s design principles and codes.
- Reviews OLE designs and modifications, and ensures adherence to the relevant technical standards, safety standards and industry standards.
- Provides relevant technical guidance and reviews/updates on Overhead technical documents and maintenance procedures.
- Reviews development technical specifications, engineering maintenance instructions, service schedules, work practices, type approvals, drawings and associated Overhead Systems documentation to ensure
Project/Contract management
- Manages high value and high risk projects, coordinates and plans in house teams and/or contractors undertaking design and/or construction of railway OLE installations.
To be suitable for this role will:
- Possess a tertiary qualification in electrical engineering or equivalent recognised by the Institute of Engineers Australia.
- Demonstrated competence in 25kVAC OLE design and maintenance and proven knowledge of rail safety.
- Demonstrated extensive experience in managing and leading teams in the planning, design and construction of OLE infrastructure to achieve agreed outcomes.
- Demonstrated understanding or skills in contract and project management.
- Well developed verbal, written and interpersonal communication skill, including the ability to develop rapport with internal and external stakeholders.
