MDC Production Manager

What is the purpose of this role?
Do you want to work on a high- profile project in the rail industry like Wales and Borders?
Here at Amey we support the multi-billion-pound contract to run the Wales and Borders train service and to develop the Cardiff Central Metro. We will work closely with TfW to deliver a new era for passengers and for Wales, with more services, newer trains, better stations and a more reliable network. We will continue to provide support to TfW Ltd in delivering key projects such as the introduction of new rolling stock and the construction of the £738m South Wales Metro (SWM) transport project, a planned multi-modal transport system, which incorporates trains, light rail and bus services.
This role will be to manage and lead a team of staff in the assembly of all Overhead Line Electrification (OLE) Steelwork to form pre-assembled items ready for installation by OLE operational teams.
What will this role involve?
• Manage the MDC operation working to exacting standards maintaining close collaboration with other stakeholders including the client TfW.
• Maintain the proactive delivery of pre-assembled materials ensuring reliability and the correct standards.
• Undertake advance planning of assembly requirements and scheduling of component requirements.
• Co-ordinate with procurement/materials ordering staff on component requirements and delivery timescales.
• Assist and mentor staff to maximize performance, to ensure compliance with all relevant technical, quality, environmental and safety standards.
• Assist with the professional training and development of staff and review training requirements.
• Liaise with manufacturers to transfer best practice and innovation.
• Investigation and reporting of faults, Identification of fault trends.
What are we looking for?
Qualifications
• Recognised engineering apprenticeship or equivalent qualification
• Experience of fabrication of OLE equipment
• Excellent planning and organisational capabilities.
• Previous experience of managing teams ideally on large rail projects
• Excellent communication and motivation skills essential.
• Knowledge and experience of railway rules, regulations & standards, and relevant safety legislation
• Knowledge of Health and Safety at Work Act
• Experience of risk Assessment techniques
• Knowledge of modification procedures
• PTS
• Understanding of Network Rail Line Standards
• Able to drive with full driving license.
• Computer literate.
• Understanding commercial processes and requirements.
Skills
• Proven experience in ability to work within a team
• Ability to show financial awareness regarding application to procedures
• Understanding Health and safety legislation in relation to construction
Experience
• Knowledge of railway operations.
• Knowledge of relevant Health & Safety legislation.
• Sound professional engineering and IT skills.
• Assembly and stores/stock control experience
• Experience of managing small assembly team ensuring good practice.
