The Role
An opportunity has arisen for an Assistant Project Manager - Track to join the TRU East Alliance project team responsible for the delivery of site works through GRIP 5-8 stages. The position is based across 2 project locations, Ulleskelf and Gascoigne Wood.
The mission of the TRU East Alliance is to transform the East of Leeds route allowing people to travel faster, more reliably and in greater comfort between the North's great cities. Providing passengers with more choice, more seats and better facilities on a safer, cleaner, more environmentally friendly railway.
Key Accountabilities
Reporting to the Track Lead you will provide project management assistance to all phases and aspects of Track Construction within the E1 Project, providing support to the project team whilst following the Alliance and wider industry Best Practices.
- Ensure that appropriate alliancing behaviours and 'best for project' approaches are adopted at all times, leading by example in the pursuit of successful delivery of the Programme to the benefit of all Alliance Members.
- Responsible for ensuring all activities are in compliance with all Network Rail and TRU East standards and procedures.
- Ensure delivery of timely and accurate data collection, analysis and reports as requested.
- Communicate and highlight project process compliance issues as appropriate.
- Work within established financial procedures to assist in the production of basic plans and schedules for the project, and monitor and review financial information, in order to identify any anomalies or discrepancies and ensure there is access to up-to-date and accurate information for the project.
- Independently collate and interpret data to prepare documents including project plans and schedules as directed.
- Take a proactive role in monitoring and evaluating data in order to identify opportunities and provide advice for the improvement of processes and systems.
- Complete complex, professional level tasks as requested by colleagues, prioritising case load and interpreting established policies in order to effectively support the Track Construction team.
- Liaise with stakeholders from across the Alliance to provide support to the project, acting as a focal point for operational project queries and ensuring they are collated and addressed.
- Monitor resource levels against the original budgets and advise the Track Lead of any risks of overspends and/or misappropriations.
- Ensure job files are kept up to date with all relevant documents.
- Undertake any other reasonable duties required in line with capabilities, the needs of the project, and the wider TRU East programme.
Skills & Experience
- Educated to HND/HNC or equivalent in relevant subjects and/or transferrable industry expertise.
- Knowledge of the rail industry and its regulatory framework.
- Experience of working on collaborative projects with multiple companies would be desirable.
- Membership (or working towards membership of) the Association for Project Management
- Knowledge of planning, commercial and financial aspects.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
- Attention to detail.
- High level numeracy and IT skills, with proven ability to expertly use a range of relevant software.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills and ability to form positive internal and external relationships.
- Ability to prioritise and manage a diverse workload.
- Personal resilience and ability to thrive in a challenging and fast-moving environment.
- Ability to work independently as well as part of a team and able to seek out opportunities.
- Initiative and proactivity.
