What is the purpose of this role?
- Support the Principle Project Manager and Project Manager with the Management of the Principal contractor Canton Depot design and build contract. Carry out the co-ordination of all works package activities & disciplines to deliver a cohesive plan.
- The APM will support in the PM in the contract administration for this package; programme integration, analysis and updates, IDP's, Amey Consulting Design and the PMO; Stakeholder management with other support areas including IO and IM and external interfaces such as Network Rail; Co-ordination of readiness reviews ahead of disruptive access works as necessary and periodic reporting as outlined in PEP documentation.
What will this role involve?
- Assist in the delivery of the works package as agreed by the Principle Package Manager, ensuring that the work is carried out in a safe and effective manner within budget, specification and to plan.
- Manage weekly meetings ensuring that progress to date and forecasts are being carried out to meet reporting requirements.
- Interface with IDP ensuring materials process to ensure timely delivery of materials.
- Assist the Principle Project Manager in ensuring health and safety matters are properly controlled to the relevant standards and that policy is both clearly communicated and implemented.
- Assist the Principle Project Manager in ensuring all relevant and applicable company procedures are adhered to.
- Promote and support improvements in Safety, Health and Environmental management in line with the objectives set by Amey and the client.
- Ensure that systems are in place to ensure all work activities have the required approvals and all contract, technical and administrative instructions are implemented prior to commencement of the works.
- Contribute to and monitor the Contract Key Performance Indicators (KPIs), including financial, commercial, safety and people related issues, as agreed with the Project Manager and wider team.
- Proactively seek improvements in efficiency of operation to support the Amey & TfW targets through continuous business improvement.
- Promote and develop a collaborative culture.
- Report the progress and performance against the contract, in collaboration with the Project Manager at weekly and monthly business reviews.
The Scope of the works at Canton Depot include:
- Upgrading existing operational maintenance shed including Bogie Drop installation
- Demolition of existing stores and replacement with a combined 1000m2 store/warehouse
- Demo and refurb of existing stores in to 2 level office
- Demo and realignment of P-Way
- Electrification of 10no roads
- Construction of 100m x 12.5m train maintenance shed with lifting jacks, retractable OLE and overhead crane
- Concrete hardstanding and other associated civils
What are we looking for?
- Must be able to drive, with a full current and valid driving licence
- Min Batchelor’s Degree in Engineering/Construction Management (or a similar approved qualification)
- Computer literacy – Excel, Word, PowerPoint and Microsoft Outlook, Projectwise (other document management systems)
- Understanding of Railway Planning systems and rail experience is desirable but not a barrier to a great candidate
- Understanding/experience in building/shed construction
- Basic project management experience in multi-disciplinary project environment
- A motivated individual who can handle a demanding role
- A hands-on approach, ideally with site experience
- Satisfy requirements of PTS medical
- Health & Safety Training (IOSH), SMSTS or similar
- Knowledge of Risk Assessment techniques
- Environmental Awareness Tool Box Talk
- IOSH working safely is desirable
- Project management qualifications are desirable (e.g. Prince2, AMP)
- Understanding/Experience of NEC3 Form of Contract is desirable

From our base in Treforest and Taffs Well, we are moving into the infrastructure construction stage of the multi-million pound CVL Transformation Project.
